    Hello,

DTV will be coming out tomorrow to upgrade my equipment. I do not know a whole lot about how the different pieces of equipment work with each other, therefore I am hoping to find out if what the rep on the phone suggested is the best way to go.

I currently have two DVR's - an HR24-100 and HR24-200. I have two receivers, an H21-200 and a H24-100. They are tied together for the Whole Home Plan.

I believe the plan is that the tech will be coming with a Genie DVR and a Genie Mini. It sounds like they will take the two current receivers out and I will end up with the two DVR's above (HR24's) and the new Genie and Mini. I guess my main question is this the best way to go, as opposed to have the one Genie DVR and three mini's?

    Thanks!

I would keep the HR24s add the Genie and mini. Ask the installer befour any work is started.

Perfect, that sounds like that is what the plan is - keep the two HR24's and add the Genie and Mini.

So, if I have a Genie, a Mini and the two HR24's, how many shows does that mean I could actually record at one time?

    Thanks again to all!

Nine shows total. They should also install an SWM-8, if I recall.

    Nine total.

Just make sure they don't try to swap out the Genie and mini for any of the HR24s. Your best end-state from what you described above would be Genie, two HR24s and one mini. IMO.

    With 9 tuners, he'll need the SWM16.

I did a similar upgrade this weekend.
Previously I had 3 HRxx boxes, replacing one with a Genie receiver.
Now I have 1 HR44, and 2 HR24 boxes. This did create nine tuners in use and the SWM LNB system doesn't allow more than eight.
But I switched one HR24 unit to use one tuner only. This will easily meet my recording needs, and still allows client addition to other rooms if needed.

One more question, if I may. Does the Genie DVR necessarily have to be where I have the wired internet connection coming into the house? Currently, where I would prefer to have the Genie DVR is our main living room, however there is no wired internet access to that location, however it does get very strong wireless reception there. Will this be an issue?

How are you currently connected to the Internet?

The installer likely will want to set you up wireless via the HR44. Resist it! Your connection via the internet can be in the same spot it's in now, and the connection will be via DECA (the cable properly run and connected to your router.)

If you are currently connected to the internet using a DECA BB, they tech will use that. If you have a CCK-W, then that will get remove and the tech will use the HR44's built in WiFi. Internet connection should not determine Genie placement

If you mean did Directv send a tech out, no.
Original Directv install (through mover's connection last year) was Swm 5 LNB, with three HRxx boxes Whole Home connected via DECA.
One HR24-100 died in May: http://www.dbstalk.com/topic/212181-your-satellite-box-is-over-the-temperature-limit/. Directv replaced with a HR24-500.
Then bought (leased) a HR44-500 through Dishbuys: http://www.dbstalk.com/topic/212807-has-anyone-ordered-from-dishbuys/.
I activated this HR44-500 over the phone with Directv, deactivating a HR21 at the same time.
I knew a Genie + HR24 + HR24 with 9 tuners needed would cause problems with my Swm setup, so before activating the HR44 I changed the setup of one HR24 to use one tuner only.
