    "03-09) 14:25 PST WASHINGTON, (AP) --

Bowing to ferocious opposition in Congress, a Dubai-owned company signaled surrender Thursday in its quest to take over operations at U.S. ports.

"DP World will transfer fully the U.S. operations ... to a United States entity," the firm's top executive, H. Edward Bilkey, said in an announcement that capped weeks of controversy."

WE WON!!:hurah: Our ports is once again safe.

It's 'Our ports ARE safe once again!' -- but regardless, I doubt that U.S. ports are any safer today than (not then) they were yesterday.

"United States entity" -- could be a U.S. entity in name and registration, but wholly or majority owned by foreign interests.

Realistically, U.S. ports are about as safe as virginity in a whorehouse! There is no way to completely secure our ports short of shutting them down.

One day we may learn why DP World chose to back down. I suspect the decision was to give Bush some breathing room, letting him avoid a showdown with Congress on this extremely unpopular issue.

Actually that is what it was before a US subsidiary of a foreign (UAE) company. If they transferred it to another similar entity ther would bea hue and cry.

DP World? That sounds like the title of an adult film.
