Recently 2 of my locals have duplicates in the guide
Ch. 15 and 64 in the Grand Rapids,MI DMA
Can I hide one of these? One says DT but the picture quality looks identical SD crap

    HD LIL
3 New Channels Active from *Test:

    11 WLLA 64 20 D11 @99W 99S 225 1070 76
A3 Grand Rapids 64 WLLA IND IND from WLLADT-TV, 64, Grand Rapids, MI

    11 WXSP 15 20 D11 @99W 99S 225 1080 76
A3 Grand Rapids 15 WXSP MNT MNT from WXSPDT-TV, 15, Grand Rapids, MI

These are HD feeds just added. Go to settings>display>preferences> then make sure to HIDE SD DUPLICATES

If this is already done do a reboot. Sometimes when a HD channel is added it still shows the SD version, Reboot and this should correct..

Do you have native on? If so, what does the options button or your TV tell you about resolution?

If you want to use the new ones for recordings, you will have to redo any series recordings.

BTW, Wikipedia lists WLLA as SD only. WXSP is supposed to be 720p but they may Upconvert some stuff.

You need to give your Display Preferences a reset.

Go to Display/Preferences/Guide HD Channels - do Show All Channels.

Wait a minute or two - then check to verified both SD & HD locals are showing in the Guide.

Now go back to Hide SD Duplicates. Wait the minute or two again.

Now check to see if you still got duplicate channels.

Actually in this case it might be a side effect of DirecTV recently adding MPEG4 SD versions of SD only locals in many 119 markets. The data used to generate the transponder maps only indicates MPEG4 vs MPEG2, it doesn't have an indicator for HD vs SD. The only way to verify is seeing it first hand with all resolutions selected and it set to native.

If both of them are SD channels, hiding SD duplicates won't do anything unless the setting also does something to prefer MPEG4 over MPEG2.

Same thing in the Flint market. 2 guide entries for WDCP the PBS station from Delta college. Both in SD. I suspect that one is off of D10/12 in MPEG 4. This way an SL3 install will get all the locals possible. No need for the 119 in the market.

I think Directv has already begun the process of adding MPEG4 versions of locals that they'll complete once they launch their new satellite (D14) next month and it begins service a couple months later. At that time they'll probably do the same for all the channels on 119, not just the remaining locals.

Not sure how they'll fix the duplicates, maybe the receivers will need a firmware update to hide the MPEG2 version of channels from 119 when there's an MPEG4 version available on 99/103.

An interesting issue. May not be a real fix till they get all markets converted so they can shut off 119. So I suggest using a favorites list. I always do myself anyway.

They won't shut off 119 even when all markets are covered by MPEG4, until they shut off MPEG2 entirely. Hard to believe they can't come up with a fix for this, but it might not be something they can fix in the guide itself, which is why I suggested it might require a firmware update on the HD receivers.

They can shut off or repurpose 119 when they have all people who get programming from there converted. Not everyone on the entire system. I think they will make the people
Getting 119 stuff the first ones to be all mpeg4 equipment now. But who knows.

You could be right. There are some big DMAs like Vegas on 119, but none of the really big ones with over a million people, so that's an option.

There has been nothing to indicate any timeline on Directv's end for either one. I doubt it will be anytime soon, they can afford to wait years for customers to voluntarily upgrade or leave Directv rather than investing a lot of money to force them to move earlier.

If you want to remove the duplicates and you have SWM you could try going to satellite setup and changing from Slimline-5S to Slimline-3S. That will drop everything on 119. If you have any locals that are ONLY on 119, you would lose them, along with the small amount of niche English (and larger amount of Spanish) programming that is on 119, but if the duplicates bother you that much maybe that's a trade you'd be willing to make.

that can only be done if you have a SWM switch, if you have a SWM LNB it can't be done as the system auto configures itself

I guess in that event he'd need to buy a SL3S LNB on eBay and swap it himself...
