That's the option that is missing and I was hoping to add, there is no way to search a single channel a page at a time. You can just scroll right, but only 1/2 hour at time.

Hmm I see where you're going with that. I've seen a similar feature on Comcast I believe. Thanks for the information. The left arrow usually brings up the Themes and Search though, so I don't know if it will replace that button function. I'll let them know and see what happens though for you.

In the main guide type the number of hours then right arrow to jump further.

There is also several different options on how to display channels. I have my primary receiver set to showing five channels for 90 minutes (Standard-Partial guide with video) and my second set to seven channels for 3 hours (Extended-Partial guide with video). The "enhanced" setting shows four channels for one hour (partial guide). Choosing a full screen guide shows 7 channels (standard) 9 channels (extended) or 6 channels (enhanced).

See MENU-Preferences-Guide Display to change what you see.

Tommy, once in the guides the left arrow does nothing ... except move you back in time if you've gone forward. Once you have hit the wall of "current" moving left, pressing left again does nothing (at least on my receivers). I get "Themes and Search" using the left arrow when NOT in the menu or the browse guide.

In the browse guide one sees two programs at a time (regardless of length) for one channel at a time. Every click right is the next program whether it is a 30 minute show or a three hour movie. Pressing LEFT once one is in that browse guide works the same as in the main guide ... no function if the show is current.

That's what I like about my Harmony remote - I have LCD buttons programmed for "3" "right arrow" and "3" "left arrow" for just that reason (HD guide).

Here is what he is talking about:

As the images below shows, you would press LEFT ARROW when in the guide and it would highlight the channel name/number column to the left then you would press INFO, some other button of choice, or it could automatically show you the list by going to the left (either way Dish would want to implement it really)

Here is how it works on DirecTV:

Here is how it works on Comcast:

I think if you are going to be able to go back to the channel numbers in the guide and highlight them, you ought to be able to press the INFO button and get a decent description of the channel. I have AEP and there are many channels that I have absolutely no idea what those meaningless abbreviations mean and there is no place within the receiver where you can get the information. This description screen should also have the ability to use the up and down buttons to scroll channel and their descriptions, with an ENTER function to go to that channel.

Additionally, if you instead press the LIVE button on a highlighted channel, it then gives you a vertical listing of that channel's upcoming events.

Lastly, if you accidentally move to the channel number in the guide and don't hit the INFO or the LIVE button, the guide just scrolls up and down like normal.

That's EXACTLY what I was hoping for. Don't really care how I get there, just thought Left Arrow was doing nothing anyways.

I like Dish Network DVRs they way they are now when you press the right blue arrow on the Dish Network remote control, a single channel transparent guide appears. If you want to view the programs listed for another channel all you need to do is enter a different channel's number.:)

If you find you prefer another service provider's DVR you may need to switch providers.;)

Because even thou the DVR's are great, we wouldn't want to make them better?

There is a series of commericals running right now that shows just how ridiculous that thinking is.

Since we are making requests, here's mine:

When selecting an upcoming program the dvr (522 in my case) will put up the record screen. However it defaults to 'All Episodes'. I would much rather have it default to "Once'. While I am used to this behavior, sometimes my kids forget to make the change from all to once and we end up with a bunch of shows recorded unintentionally. (And when it is a show thats on all the time (like SpongeBob), it can fill up really fast!

The other one is probably more difficult, and may not be possible due to the tivo lawsuit... I use the 522 in single mode. One feature I miss from my force-retired 721 receiver is the ability to pause a recording (something being permanently recorded, not the buffer) swap to the other tuner for a while and then when I swap back, unpause the recording at the point it was paused. Right now the receiver will always jump to 'live' when switching back.
