E! HD will be available on DTV starting April 25th:)

The more HD the better, I watch E! True Hollywood story probably twice a year, if I see it's on I'll usually watch it but I don't usually check E.

On a side note, why do most people on here get so heated about DirecTV and satellite TV in general? At times it's like Xbox vs. Playstation... it's crazy. A lot of people aren't very friendly on here (and many are) but it's a forum about satellite tv......

I just don't get it

Sometimes heated post wakes them up sometimes, but not just on satellite forums or any forums for that matter.

Emotions are hard to convey online. We can't really use body language or facial expression to communicate here. I've been misinterpreted as mad or upset often online because I use to the point responses, when in reality I'm hardly ever mad or meaning to be rude.

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ALL THIS HATE?!?!?

Look... I understand that some of you don't watch E! I don't watch it either, except for "The Soup." For those of you who HATE E! programming, you really might want to give "The Soup" a try... It makes fun of all the shows you haters are bemoaning on this thread.

I want to go on record to say that for a long time, E! has been the only channel I've wanted to see in HD... and I'm not one of those brain dead people that most of you people on here apparently want to see get sent off to the gas chamber.

When they added TruTV instead of E!, you didn't see me on the TruTV thread saying "I hate this crapola channel, and I hope you all die!" When they added AMC, you didn't see me ranting about how "Mad Men" (while stylistically beautiful and flawlessly executed), is the slowest, most depressing show on television.

Personally, I'd like to see EVERY channel on DirecTV in HD... even though I'll probably never watch more than a dozen of them. There are A LOT of people who wanted E! in HD. Deal with it.

My money would be on some tweaks needed to the encoder or something before I'd put the blame on DirecTV for this, but I that's just my guess.

I've viewed E! twice since it went live... once the afternoon it went live, and the second time last weekend. I didn't really notice the softness on whatever program I tuned into that first day... perhaps because I didn't have anything to compare it to, but I when I tuned into "The Voice" on the Weekend, I could definitely see a difference.

Yeah... I'm a super nice guy, but I think I come off like a smart-alec online sometimes.

There's way too much content out there that interests me. "The Soup" doesn't interest me in the least. I'm glad that it's in HD for those that like it though... :)

It's true... I do believe that E! is partially responsible for the coming apocalypse (;))... ditto for MTV. However, shocking though it might be, I actually liked a couple of programs on MTV this past year, so it's always possible something like that could happen down the line for E!.

That being said, I never said E! watchers should be sent to the gas chamber... I think it was more like being shot or something! ;) :p

While I have no problems expressing my personal feelings on E!, I agree. I may not like it, and only know one individual personally who does, but the ratings of the channel prove it's an addition worthy for DirecTV to add... a fact that SHOULD at least be acknowledged by those criticizing it.

Yeah... while I'd prefer channels that are deemed quality in my mind to have come first, I want all channels on DirecTV in HD as well... E! included.

I'm sorry for my rant but who the hell decided to add this channel in HD when there are far better channels out there with way better programming than this crappy gossip channel unless kim kardashian payed Directv or their wives got mad about not being HD, and yes i know all about the Comcrap and Olympics, but unless no one speaks up or email the big heads nothing will ever change, but i guess another basic HD rant over.
Hide E! That''s what I do, same with Style.

There are a number of inputs that go into selecting HD channels, including customer surveys, ratings, etc, etc. Customer input is used. Everyone has different tastes, different shows, and different genres they prefer.

It always amazes me that some people don't want channels they don't like/watch added in HD. What kind of sense does that make? Selfish much? The more channels that are in HD, the better, whether or not they're my favorites.

I have probably watched less than 2 total hours of E! in the past 12 months, and I am happy nonetheless that it's now in HD.

#212 ·
Yeah I agree. I'm a straight male but I'd still be happy for We, Style, Oxygen and LMN HD for my wife. Not only that but the broader appeal and wider selection means more chances to get some refer a friend credits. I know all kinds of people and maybe they would benefit from a different channel selection than myself.

You do realize we are talking about TV, do you not?! Not just any TV, but TV we pay a considerable amount of money for every month in order to watch.

I'm not saying people should belittle other people's tastes... "Different strokes for different folks" is the motto I try to always keep in mind.

However, I can certainly understand why people who are anxiously awaiting DirecTV to launch (insert random channel here) in HD are disappointed when another channel is launched instead... particularly a channel that they deem to be of little value. I personally have about eight channels I watch fairly regularly, and a few more that I might watch from time to time that I'm awaiting in HD. Since the last time I had multiple channels added on June 23, 2010, I have gained two channels that I care about... one of which I TRULY cared about (AMC) and another which I rarely watch but I'm glad to have (Sony Movie Channel), so I'm in the same boat, but...

... I don't begrudge DirecTV for doing so. It's (astonishingly enough) a popular channel. It's a good business decision! It's also a positive outcome in that we know DirecTV's bandwidth isn't quite as strapped as we feared, so the only disadvantage to those of us who don't care for the addition is possibly DirecTV's contract and equipment budget... and the advantage is obvious... more HD and the knowledge that should E! ever add programming that we care about, it'll be there in HD. :)

It's rare these days, but I have watched programming on We and Oxygen. They're far down my list of wants...

I'm a straight male too, but LMN HD is fairly high up on my list. It's rare for me to watch it outside of the months of November and December, but it happens.

I was being sarcastic, eluding to the ridiculous notion "DirecTV can do no wrong" that some here seem to believe. Perhaps I used the wrong emoticon though. :D

Well anyways, I think E!'s "soft HD" has something to do with D* putting 6 HD channels per transponder. They'll never admit that of course, since nothing is ever their fault.

I need to check out the other channels on that transponder tomorrow, and see what I think. I'm not sure that's the case though... since MPEG4 encoders were released years ago that were supposed to be able to fit more using the same quality.

As it is now... I'm not putting the blame on DirecTV for the PQ...

I doubt any of the channels' owners will admit it either though. Seems like a lost cause.

It doesn't. Technical experts at DirecTV and here assure that it doesn't.

I know what you mean. Sometimes my girlfriend will be watching something on one of those women's network and even though I don't want to.... I'll find myself watching too if I have nothing else to do.

Well what do the latest customer surveys and ratings say you should add next?
