You should know to Keep it simple stupid.. The way it was before was better, much better.

Cutting edge? It records tv shows, it's not like landing on the moon. At least for the R15, you should go back to the old way of doing things, one board for the R15, not 10 boards and 3459087345834758 threads!
    imho of course. :D

Sorry that you feel that way....

I mean most of the sub-forums have their defined purpose...

General Discussion (the catch all for anything that doesn't fit).
Programming (to discuss content, what channels, ect)
    R15 - The R15
    HR20 - The HR20
    Other SD Non-DVRs (D10, D11, D12)
    Other HD Non-DVRs (H20, SAT-520)
    Tivo (Anything TiVo powered)
Cutting Edge - The "Beta" Trial forums

We seperated it such, so that those that are just find our board for the first time... don't start reading threads about the problems with a Beta version, or the cool new feature in a CE... and then get confused because their system is different...

Also the "way it was before"... was before we grew by leaps and bounds in the last year...

I just come back to the site, log in, and click "New Posts."

Threads with the most recent posts are listed first.

If I have particular interest in a subject and think I might have missed some comments, I can look in the subforums.

    Works for me...

I can understand the OP issue. If I had not had interest in getting an HR20, I might not have discovered a lot of other topics around here. I have a favorite set to the R15 page, that is my starting point, as it was the reason I'm here anyway.

Disagree with the OP, except that I would make a slight change and close the following forums:

    Other SD Non-DVRs (D10, D11, D12)
    Other HD Non-DVRs (H20, SAT-520)
    Tivo (Anything TiVo powered)

    and two one new forums:

    Other Current Receivers: (D10/11/12,H10/20,SAT-GO)
    Non-Current Receivers

I would also encourage anyone with Tivo discussion to go over to tivocommunity. Nothing against Tivo users, I'm one myself, just there's a good resource over there. Why duplicate it?

I agree with OP, for me the general forum should catch anything not CE, HR-20, or HR-15. So general programing, HDTV, banter, etc.

I agree with earl new users don't need the CE stuff, or HR-20 stuff if they have a SD receiver, but I think general should be jsut that -general.

    i won't lose sleep either way though:p

Is there a way to put a filter to "new posts"? If it allows me to pick only new posts from the forums I care about, the problem is solved. Otherwise, I can see OP's point.

For me the best thing was adding the program forum.
General question forum would have 6-12 active threads about sports packages, or games.
While I understand the interest in them, they weren't what I was looking for.
Now I have six shortcuts to what ever I want to see or read about.
Wouldn't "the old way" really be going to the top level list of all of the forums?
Well I like it Earl, thanks..:)

    Earl's method is too complex.
When I want new posts, I simply hit the new posts button.

BUT I EXCLUDE many forums in my user profile options!!!
Scroll to the bottom of this link.

Yes... that is one way to do it (and yes, that is how I do it).

But that link above... (Which is also available in the Quick Links options on the top bar).... Will give you a quick summary of the last 25 or so newest posts in all DirecTV forums.

Just looking at the forum list, will only list the the newst post in each form.

The forums you exclude in UserCP Options will be not only be collapsed on the main page but will ALSO be excluded from the "New Posts" button.

I never look at the main page's list of forums.
I go straight to the new posts.
    http://www.dbstalk.com/search.php?do=getnew

    It's very effective.

Hey, I like the subforums. Keeps me from having to wade through posts about equipment I don't have to find info relevent to mime. Just makes for a more organized site.
