Has anyone heard if DirecTV is in negotiations to bring the EPIX movie channels into their lineup?

I am attaching a link to the EPIX website, for those that may be curious about these channels.

Like seemingly every MSO, nothing seems ever mentioned until a deal is officially reached. Exception for potential programming is usually something out of the ordinary. Example with that was just prior to the August 14, 2014 launch concerning SEC Network.

I think EPiX may be on the horizon if (and I believe it will happen) AT&T gets official approval to buy DirecTV. For that to materialize, following would have to be how to deal with carried programming from AT&T U-verse and DirecTV. (Consolidation with the national programmers of one or both lineups.)

From what was announced with other MVPDs several years ago, it appears that EPIX was priced differently than HBO, SHO and STARZ. EPIX appears to be priced by all total subs on basic (just like all the other basic channels - CNN, FOX, TNT, TBS, Universal, ESPN etc), but the MVPD can charge whatever extra they want for it (Free for 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, forever, $2, $4, $6 whatever).

Several years ago it was slightly over $1 per sub.

That means the MVPD can use it however they want - but it also puts the onus on the MVPD to sale the product to their subs, unlike HBO, SHO or STARZ, where a MVPD can have it if someone wants to subscribe, but they do not have to try and upsell it to subs. This method makes a MVPD try to upsell you Epix and promote it.

They may have changed it since the beginning (though I doubt it). But it was a way to push EPIX when no one knew what it was.

That is most likely why DirecTV has chosen not to add it. They have the rights, but do not want to pay $30M+ a month as I suspect they do not think they would see that return, especially when they want a EBIDTA Cash Flow Margin of 25% (which would push it up closer to $40M a month).

And a very large On Demand catalog, which is available via streaming if you have Epix on your system.

My experience with Epix (FiOS) has been good, lots of good movies, more so then the other premiums, at least so far.

I was going to ask this...
Any plans for D* to add this now that they are owned by AT&T.
AT&T U verse has all the Epix networks .

And I agree with the person above. The epix experience on fios is great and a huge VOD library.

Past has shown that just because U-Verse had a channel doesn't mean that DIRECTV will get it, look at PAC-12

Would love to see the Epix networks added. With Universal ceasing operation, perhaps they could be added to the HD Extra Pack.

Given that Uverse is not going to be around for the long run, a channel being on Uverse probably has zero bearing on whether it will ever be on Directv.

Based on what was leaked out, I don’t see DIRECTV ever picking them up I because they evidently wanted a flat rate for the channels rather than have it based on any kind of subscription format. Stupid....
