    That's what the article says...
The segment from the original press release that they paraphrased makes it clearer for those who confused the mention of DirecTV with DirecTV Now since their paraphrasing left out the key adverb "also". It's launching on DirecTV on 5/19 and on DirecTV Now on a later date:

Will this Epix Premium service be included on the Premier package like HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, etc...?

All that's known right now is what's in the press release, which makes no mention of it being in Premiere. Also with the $5.99 price tag it's clearly not going to be in Movies/HD Extra either.

Another $5.99 a month for the upcoming Epix channels. Not bad but for what they're charging for Premier it should be part of that package.

Just spoke with a Manila-based CSR who, unsurprisingly, had no information about Epix availability or its placement within or without the Premier tier.

As a Premier customer, I obviously hope the former holds, especially as I currently am paying for Epix via the Roku channel.

Which is the same way it works on U-verse, & is NOT included with ANY other channels/tiers...so I'm not sure why some people are surprised it's (also) like this on D*...

Mainly because the Premier package includes all premium channels so why not throw those in too? It hasn't been stated yet whether it is included or not so it might be. Or might not. I'm already paying $230 per month and that is with a $50 per month credit so if it is not included they can keep it. :)

Id like to know how many channels the package will include. Multiple wouldnt be bad but that fee for one channel. I'm not so sure about. Be nice if they started it off with a free weekend or week long preview for all customers.

They went up in test mode last week and have been posted in the HD anticipation and lineup update threads:
    558 Epix East HD
    559 Epix 2 HD
    560 Epix Hits HD

Also, premium channels are not priced per-channel to providers, it's for their overall content library. In addition to their original series, Epix has the rights to the MGM, Lionsgate and Paramount libraries. They have a fourth channel with classic movies called Drive-In that's not in test mode, but it will also include VOD and access to the Epix streaming apps which will let you get the movies that air on that channel. They also offer 4K/UHD streaming on their Roku and Apple TV apps.

The price isn't bad, but you can get most of the Epix content if you subscribe to Amazon Prime or Hulu. Is it really worth paying for a separate subscription?

This may be hard for people here to believe where many of you are early adopters and always want the latest and greatest when it comes to tech and gadgets, but not everyone has/wants an Amazon Prime subscription or Hulu, or a fire stick/apple TV/chromecast on all of their TVs, and not everyone purchases that much content from Amazon on a regular basis to make a Prime subscription worth it. Unless you care about Hulu's originals like Marvel's Runaways or are a fan of some of the back library content they have (i.e. the Miller-Boyett/TGIF collection), or are a cord swapper/cutter/shaver, you probably have no reason to get Hulu since the rest of their base content is stuff you can already get with a provider login.

Not to mention, not everyone has access to internet speeds fast enough to stream content in HD (or at all in some cases), especially if you're stuck in Verizon's FiOS-less copper territory.

Yes streaming is a thing, and it will probably be a long time before Epix has anything original that comes close to the popularity of HBO's originals where people want to stream the latest episode as soon as it becomes available, but just take a look at the complaints on social media this past Sunday when HBO Go was trending worldwide for all the wrong reasons. Even Showtime's streaming platforms had problems when the new episodes of Twin Peaks became available.

Two weeks ago it was the dark episode, last weekend it was the coffee cup episode (the latter error has been corrected). I read a detailed review/rebuke of the dark episode - it started out apologetic explaining how a technician in a dark room with a perfect monitor could fail to notice that the image was too dim for most home viewers. The reviewer has high quality equipment so they watched the show again in a darkened room and re-calibrated their equipment. It was still too dark.

But one commentary in the article was comparing the quality of the show when streamed live at the time of release versus later in the week when the peak viewership had passed. The live servers were overwhelmed and the service scaled back quality in an effort to serve more viewers. There were still glitches in the transmission. After the peak he had a higher quality signal to view.
