I just saw this article posted 1/3/13 in HomeMedia magazine. Don't know if it has already been posted here. It sounds like Directv has acquired the rights to air Epix.

"Effective Feb. 7 DirecTV will raise subscription rates by an average of 4.5%, pointing to higher programming costs for the increases.

In 2013, the programming fees we pay to the owners of these television channels will increase about 8%, but DirecTV is adjusting the prices our customers pay on average about 4.5%,” the pay-TV operator said in a statement. “By holding firm in programming negotiations, we have been able to keep price increases below our cable competitors.”

During July 2012 Viacom channels went dark for 10 days on DirecTV during a dispute over carriage fees, where Viacom had been seeking a 30% increase in fees. The agreement gave DirecTV the option to add the Epix pay-TV channel, which is co-owned by Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate, and gave DirecTV users access to Viacom channels via tablets, laptops and other devices."

Yes it's been mentioned before that while DIRECTV did get the rights for EPIX they have no plans to add those channels at this time. It would be nice if they could add them to the HD Extra or even a seperate movie package for folks that want that suite of channels.

Do you have access to their financials? Didn't think so. Stop posting your opinion as fact.
Their financials? Haha...probably best to not respond if you don't understand the post. It was not about their financial value. By offering their content to streaming providers, they cheapened their worth to service providers that they might hope to secure retrans deals with. This was mentioned during a quarterly call conducted by DirecTV executives, including the CEO.

More insider info? Plus, Netflix PQ is less then desirable. My Twenty thousand dollar theatre will have none of it.

Um , thats a 14 day trial only, you have to subscribe to Epix through a provider in order to maintain Epix service Via Streaming beyond that.

Epix Streaming is no different then HBO or Max GO as far as the rules and subscription.

by the way Amazon has the EPIX rights as of September 2012, Not Netflix

You've missed the point. Not surprising.

I think Epix (1, 2, 3 and Drive In) would be good additions to DirecTV. Epix (1, 2 and 3) has shown dirt run movies before going to DVD and live concerts. Drive compliments channels like Chiller and Showtime Beyond, for those who like science fiction/horror genre.

Even though there are options like NetFlix, it seems that Epix, unlike HBO, Showtime, Movie Channel, Cinemax, Starz and Encore, seems to have more variety on their scheduling of movies. Of course, this could have changed since September when I moved from DISH,

I would think Epix would improve the HD Extra pack with its possible addition, if at all.

The primary draw towards these types of premiums is no longer their movies, but their original content. Epix has none. All of their efforts to produce any have been abandoned. Their VP of original programming even resigned.

Pretty true, but Epix has movies that the others don't get and they are doing some boxing shows also.

Frankly Epix is as good or better than Starz imo.
