As discussed elsewhere but with little detail, ESPN has finally put out a presser on the new ESPN College Extra service. The package is available on TV with a subscription to the Sports Pack on channels 788-798.

Note: Streaming access to all games in this new offering are available to anyone with ESPN in their package via ESPN3 and WatchESPN.

    Press Release:

"ESPN today announced the launch of ESPN College Extra, a new college sports service that will bring hundreds of ESPN3 exclusive live college sports events to the TV. The service delivers an extensive portfolio of college sports events year-round including football, basketball, baseball, softball and more...."

"ESPN College Extra live events from FBS conferences (including the ACC, The American, Big 12, MAC and Sun Belt) and FCS conferences (Atlantic Sun, Big South, Horizon League, MAAC, MEAC, MVC, Pioneer, Southland, Summit League, SWAC, WAC and more) will be delivered to fans on up to eight channels through a sports tier or other affiliated TV package."

    Schedule included in the release:

Thanks so much for the info! Am I correct in assuming this now confirms language in the December 2014 renewal contract with Disney viz,, "ESPN3 also on television," indeed addressed linear channels as some speculated at the time?

This isn't "ESPN3 on tv", it is just a repackaging of all the crap that was in the ESPN GamePlan and FullCourt packages they used to offer into a single product.

Every season there are one or two Iowa basketball games that are on ESPN3 - when they are playing some early season opponent who will be clobbered by 50 points. Those games are only on ESPN3, FullCourt didn't deliver them. I'm guessing the same is true for a lot of major conference teams playing such 'scrimmage' type games, where ESPN may have the rights but there are better games to show on ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU that have a wider appeal than a lopsided blowout.

Assuming this new combined package still doesn't carry those games (and I don't see Big Ten mentioned among the conferences that you will see here...) there still won't be a way to get that ESPN3 only content on TV. Even if those games are now covered, the public viewing pricing for this package is way too high for what it offers.

The College Extra channels are live now. They are only HD. Each channel (788-799) is only listed once and has the "ESPNHD" logo. That is how similar sports packages (NBC Live Extra, 491-495, for example) are handled.

    Good call, ejbvt.

I only looked in the Guide, and there's no designation for HD there.

Funny, I deliberately didn't tune to any of those channels simply because I did not want to get blasted out my chair by the loud - and awful - "Slate Music".

    Cheers,

Also if you go into Display Settings and Hide HD Channels they all disappear from the guide, which seems to indicate there only HD.

Interestingly, thus far the channels are only listed as being available in SD on AT&T U-verse's channel lineup:

I use the favorites list set-up to check on these type of things. Scrolling through will show all the channels that the guide does, but with no annoying music.

If I look at the actual games in the guide, they all say HD.

When they tried to sell me Uverse last year the man told me that all their programming was SD but it was all 720p which does not jive.
He then said if I wanted the 1080i it would cost extra.
Maybe since ESPN is 720p it is considered an SD channel with them.
Sounds reasonable if the guy trying to sell me knew what he was talking about.

Safe to assume that the guy selling U-verse didn't know what he was talking about.
