Same problem here in NC. I have an occasional audio drop as well. Notice it on both ESPN HD channels. The black screen for a second happens no less than every five minutes. I'm glad it's not a receiver issue as I'm on my third HR20-700. I've had this one for a couple of months and this is the only problem. Sucks because these are the channels I watch and record most.

This past weekend I started counting the "dips-to-black" during NASCAR races on ESPN HD but gave up after 5 or 6 in the first hour or so. In my case, the audio continues to play so its not too abrupt a break, but is definitely irritating after you notice it. Previously, someone mentioned it appeared to only occur on live programming -- this has been my experience.

received an email back today from D*. they state there has not been a problem with ESPN HD the last few days, which if anyone watched the Brickyard 400, they know that this is not the truth.
i have asked them to read this thread and respond.

Does anyone find it interesting that none of the forum moderators have stepped into this?

Just did it on the Mets vs. Brewers pre-game at approx 7:01pm CDT.
I'd been watching for approx 10 minutes.

I'm using HR20 into a 1999 48" Sony CRT standard def TV (my replacement HDTV is on pre-order).
This unit is not connected via HDMI.

The picture froze for 1/10th second, immediately pixellated to black and blacked out for probably a second, then all things were normal again.

Just did it again at 7:08pm CDT but went straight to black, then back normal.
Audio goes uninterrupted the whole time.

Wow...this issue seems like it has been occurring now for weeks if not months & to a large # of D* subscribers. Are there any MODS or people in this forum that have contacts within D* that can verify that this issue is actively being worked & to determine if there is a time frame for a resolution? Cause speaking to CSR's doesn't seem to bring it to the attention of the right people to get fixed in a timely fashion.

Even if we could hear from D* that they are now aware of this issue, can duplicate it & are currenlty working on a resolution would be a good start!

PTI was completely unwatchable last night on ESPN HD. Previously i had been seeing just blackouts like everyone else, but last night is was pixilated so bad you couldn't watch it.

There are several threads going. I have reported the problem to *D several times but the CSR's have not been instructed yet. I would like to know that somebody is hearing us on this one. It has been getting worse. not better. Please help. I am sending another e-mail to *D today. Strength in numbers I hope. I have no idea where the problem is. ESPN or DirectV just needs to acknowledge that they are working on it.

I had confirmation yesterday that the DirecTV broadcast center is definitely working to try to track this down and fix it.

Happening here too. Maybe a new feature, designed to aggravate subs even more. Glad to see the new Liberty-Tivo news today. Maybe by the time my contract expires on the HR20 in a year, Directiv will be offering a new Tivo-based HD alternative. If it's sooner, I'll pay the freight to switch. This machine will never be 99 percent.

If you read any of the multiple threads you would know that this particular problem is not due to the HR20.

It happens on both my HR20 & H20 receivers, so definitely not a HR20 issue.......

Watched several episodes of "The Bronx Is Burning" and each episode had this black out at least 5 times. Is ESPN and D* aware of this problem??

You don't have to read the whole thread, but at least skim the last page.
That being said, I was just watching ESPN for about 45 minutes, and I didn't notice one blackout.

Same video dropouts here also.. no audio dropouts, just video. Happens on several different channels not just ESPN.

If I 6sec skip back, there video is there (no dropouts). That sounds like a box issue to me. The box is getting the picture, it's just dropping it to the TV.

Im new to directv switched form comcast and i can tell you this never happened on espn-hd with comcast. Watching football tonight it went to the black screen at least 10 times. Not very happy as espn is probably my most watched channel. Hope this gets resolved.

I noticed it a few times last night. Of course with major thunderstorms in the area it totally went out for longer periods.
