one other network that does college...Versus they tend to do one game on Saturdays a lot of the bigger Pac 10 games are on there. As for ESPNU HD, I would guess it's about the money ESPN wants it moved down but then wants to be paid for all the sub on that level. That being said with the SEC contract I would think if nothing happens soon, by next football season when that contract kicks in you'll see ESPNU HD.

I'm sure we will see it before then. Bottom line is that it is ultimately in the best interest of both parties to get the channel onto DirecTV, whether Sports Pack or not. Doesn't mean that negotiations won't be difficult or somewhat drawn out, but a deal will get done. IMHO, of course.

I guess there is always Dish network to go too and save that $12 a month even though I have no plans to go back to Dish, I just added a R-16 to my account so I am locked in for 2 more years.

Name one sports channel out there we don't receive. The mtn is coming this week. We still have ESPNU even if for now only in SD, have the Big Ten Network, the NHL network, NBA TV, The NFL network all in HD and here in Buffalo I get FSN Pittsburgh for the Pirates with the Sports Pack and get STO for the Indians. The only channels Time Warner carries in Buffalo are the NHL network only in SD, NBA TV only in SD, The NFL network, hmm nowhere to be found, and no way would I ever get the other two channels with cable. We will have ESPNU in HD and I predict before college football season is over.

Wow, only one more day until this channel comes on. I can't wait to watch it on the HD Leader tomorrow night! Of course, this is just an assumption on my part due to DirecTVs Clear HD Leadership. If it is on a cable system which has only 50 HD channels, surely it will be on the Leader. :p

I have a feeling the many posters who have mentioned that ESPN is trying to push D* to move ESPNU out of the Sports Pack are correct. With the announcement of the SEC - ESPN deal a couple days ago, it's pretty clear now that ESPN is going to really step up the content on ESPNU going forward. ESPN is already in talks to expand ESPNU to 7M Comcast subs, most likely in the South (read SEC country). This should expand to 14M subs eventually.

I imagine that we (D* customers) are getting stuck in the middle of contract negotiations. D* needs to realize that having ESPNU on the Sports Pack will put them at a competitive disadvantage going forward as more cable co's add ESPNU on their basic tiers. Let's just hope ESPNU isn't charging as much the Big Ten Network or the NFL Network.

    Crossing my fingers for tomorrow.

Beat me to it! I'm getting really tired of not getting the UGA sports (basketball and baseball) on here, plus an extra 2 or 3 football games every Saturday (they're usually exclusive, CSS does most of their own production although it is crappy). Also don't forget CST in New Orleans, they have some exclusive college sports as well...

Well, hopefully, the new ESPN SEC deal will take those games off of CSS and it wont matter.

I've got another one...Fox College Sports.

We'll see if Iowa State is on Channel 617 for everyone this weekend (I think tomorrow night), or if it's just available in Iowa.

I for one can't believe the deal is not already done. How long ago did ESPN announce this channel was going HD? This should have been part of the ESPNewsHD agreement.

Well, if you're right then we should be seeing the channel at launch, since transponder space is no longer a limiting factor.

I think if we’ve learned anything in watching these types of negations from the sidelines is that the announcement date of a channel coming into existence or going HD has little to with when, or if Direct decides to picks it up

Very true. I mean the outgoing owner of DirecTV didn't even manage to save a place/get carriage agreement for his flagship station all the while allowing the incoming owner to get carriage for two HD only channels.

Apparently, there are a few deals not done, so we wait for more national HDs.

    Lame.

D* likes to boast of being the HD leader and they always do a great job with the HD channels for the Masters, US Open, etc. But when it comes to carrying the HD versions of channels like Travel HD and ESPNUHD they kind of suck. They already have the SD versions. Is it really that much of a leap to carryt the HD versions?
