i have a 722 and a 622. I understand i can add an external drive to the 722 for extra storage, correct?

Does it have to be a particular type?

Is there one that seems to be highly recommended?

    thanks for any guidance.

There is a thread over in the 612/622/722 support forum: External Hard Drives That Work

Basically, as long as the standards are met (eg: single drive with it's own power supply) people have been successful. Cases with multiple drives or computer powered don't work.

Go with the WD Element series. Fry's Electronics has had the 1.5TB for $89.99 and the 1.0TB for $69.99. Call Dish and pay the $39 fee and just follow the directions. Works like a charm.

Thanks for replies / one more question.

I have a 722 and 622; Can I only use the extra storage with only one of the DVR's or both for sharing / TV switching?

You can swap between the two.
