Okay, I just went from an HR22 to an HR44. LOVE the speed of the new hardware. A couple of things are bugging me, though...
1. The "replay" button. On my HR22 this would jump back 6 seconds. On the new box, though, it seems to be a 1 second jump. Is that right? Is there a search code or setting to get this back to 6 seconds?
2. On the HR22, even when the box was off, it was buffering. I guess "off" was more like "standby." I really miss this. A lot. I thought maybe it was a power setting, but there's only "Power Saving Mode," which isn't it. If I'm not clear on this, lemme 'splain: In the AM, while getting ready for work, I watch the local news. I power down and go to work. I get home, and power up. With the HR22, I would get home and the box had buffered the last 1.5 hours, and I could rewind and watch the local PM news form the beginning. With the HR44, there's no buffer; I have to watch from the point when I power up the box. Eh, you're all smart guys (and gals). You know what I'm talking about. Is there a search code or setting to get this back?

1. Yup, that's what you're gonna get. I think it might be a bit more than 1 second, but it's got me using a 24 under the 44 to view content from the 44. So, the "upgrade" turns into a very good, dependable server.
2. Plenty of comments about the buffers on the Genies in other threads and they seem to agree with what you're seeing. Since I don't use the Genie as a main DVR, I don't have this problem. Why they couldn't use the 24's software as a template for the software on the Genies is a question that I've never had answered to my satisfaction.
FYI, I have an HR44, and my "replay" button rewinds exactly 6 seconds, which I can tell pretty easily on any sports program that has the time indicated during the broadcast.
Also, as has been documented by others there is minimal change in power consumption in the off or "standby" position compared to on, so why not just leave it on as most others do?

2. FWIW Someone posted long ago that the Genie is in fact buffering on one tuner but it's the luck of the draw which tuner comes up when you turn on the Genie. One time I turned on my Genie and did In fact have the 90 minute buffer but it has only happened once.

Have HR54 and HR24. The HR54 replay is inconsistent as it will go back anywhere from 4-5-6 seconds per press vs. 9 seconds every time on the HR24. 30 Sec skip
is also much slower to respond vs HR24. The genie is a pretty crappy DVR; especially if you are used to the HR2x.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
