Vey good start to the document. I wish I could say I've hit something new and unusual, but perhaps the most remarkable thing is reliability.

Compared to either the R15, HR20, or HR21 this thing is a rockstar in this regards. We should find a way to point this out to folks so they know it won't be another release like the last few. Maybe just a point in the beginning like "the R16 has proven to be extremely reliable from even the early days of testing". Just something to emphasize how clean it has been.

    Hey all -

I apologize for the lack of forward progress in the R16 doc - I've been laid up with 102-degree fever for the last 3 days.

It finally broke this morning (thanks, Levaquin), so hopefully I'll get a lot done this weekend.

    Thanks for being so patient!

Anyone heard when they plan on releasing the R16? Testing has been uneventful (Kudos to the folks at D*!).......

Wow...I'm glad you are feeling better. Sick days are for tinkering with your AV setup, not for being sick! :D

Let us know if you need help with the document. I certainly appreciate you taking the bull by the horns on this.

I can definitely use all the help we can get! So, consider this a call for writing, a call for pictures, a call for whatever ya got!

Jutley - got your pics... thanks! They're some great shots in there - one question though - which R15 did you put the R16 up against? Is that an R15-300?

Just a note for First Look authors, keep the pictures small. The HR21-200 First look was 5MB.

Okay folks, we've been given our warning. Looks like we need to crank out a first look NOW.

Looking at what has been published so far,
    - In the paragraph about supporting SWM, I would suggest you mention that about half of the test group was running the R16 on SWM with the other half running it with the traditional two coax input, and that it worked great in both configurations.

Other info on SWM: In the System Info & Test screen you see the SWM Firmware version and SWM Library Version.
Unlike the HR20, the signal strength screens do not contain an SWM page.

Some other quick comments, and you can probably have a first look document ready pretty fast (which it appears we NEED):

My Playlist - Showcases. So far it is getting showcases, with one being received so far.

Otherwise, the menu structure, user interface, and operation is very much like the R15. So far, it has been very solid and reliable with the test group.

It runs very quiet, is cool to the touch, and should be a very popular addition to DirecTV's Standard Definition product line.

    Thanks, Carl.

When the first look document is finished, if it's an external PDF like HR21 first looks, send it to Earl. If you want it to be a thread like older first looks, just fine too.

There is at least one bug that came from the R15 the Series Link bug that the R15 currently has where shows are marked with the Series Link Icon in the guide but are not in the to do list to record. Besides that the R16 is much better that the R15

OK let's lock and load on this puppy! We all know the R16 is stable as a rock, got it.

The comments in this thread, I'll incorporate into the First Look doc ASAP (within the hour).

What else needs to be said? It's pretty much an R15 on Paxil - calm, cool, collected. :)

Well, the format I have it in at the moment is a set of HTML docs. Can we host it somewhere within DBSTalk or should I re-do it as a PDF?

I don't have an SWM so I can't make one on my own!

    Thanks!!

I think HTML would be the least preferable method. PDF or vBulletin posts would probably be better. I'll talk it over with the other mods.
