So, it's a "hydra" connector? One pronged end, and 2 molded? Is that correct?
I was looking for the 'extra' power plug-in shown on the CES leaflet....

Sorta but not really. It is a short power cord that is permanently attached to the AM21 that supplies power to the HR21 via the HR21 power socket. Just a pass thru of power.

    Cheers,
    Tom

Here's the setup diagram as shown in the PDF:

    Seems pretty straight-forward ...

... except I want to put my AM21 under the HR21, not the way depicted here. ;)

Indeed! That was one short manual .. and it's doubtful anyone here needed to read it anyway

I went back to the HR21 manual and it comes with a list of things in the box (page 4 or 15 of 108 in the .pdf). Might not be a bad idea to include that in the final for those folks that aren't very savy with AV equipment.

Do we know if the AM21 wil be a self install option or require a serevice call ? If it is self install, the manual needs to be updated. There is one bit of info missng for the averag joe user. After plugging in the power cord, there should be some sort of warning that the HR21 will need to go through the normal power up sequence and retreive the guide data and sat info, and that this may take several minutes. For us it is not a problem, but for grandma down the street, it might be.

A couple of notes for the AM21 user guide editors:

The noted passages specifically refers to the HR21, but everywhere else a receiver is referenced it's simply "your DIRECTV receiver". If the AM21 will eventually be available for use on the H21, the HR21 references will need to be changed.

This implies there are vents on top of the AM21, so we shouldn't put anything on top of the AM21, right? Yet below it says we can place the AM21 under the receiver.

This sounds like good advice, but it's immediately followed by ...
So, don't put the AM21 on top of any hot components, but it's OK to put the AM21 on top of a hot component, the HR21? And don't place the AM21 under a component, but it's OK to put the AM21 under a component, like the HR21? :)

If you have a HR21-700 - the surface is hot (well, ok, VERY WARM) given that the hard-drive is right there.

(Yes, I'm being picky. :) I have two HR20-700s and one is on top of the other, and I'm sure the book says not to do put them on hot components, etc. The difference is I have laptop cooling fans on each HR20 and the temp is under 100° on each.)
