I checked my account today and you can now online add HBO Max, Movies Extra Pack, and/or the Playboy Channel with a three-month free trial. You can also drop a channel package online with no need to endure a 20 minute phone call requesting the change.

With a grandfathered plan, moved to an AT&T account, still can’t make changes on line to your plan or add channels.

What's the advantage of a grandfathered plan? I have Select because I watch very few sporting events.

I spoke too soon. I tried to drop Starz online but it only gave me an error message telling me to call in. It took me 13 minutes on the phone to have them remove it.

Yesterday I get a call from AT&T offering me three months free Cinemax and Starz. The rep said I pay nothing for three months and I can cancel at any time. Today I get an email from AT&T describing the programming changes I made, and it's $13.99 off Starz and full freight for Cinemax. No deal - I called and canceled.

Most likely that call wasn't from AT&T.

That's for sure as they will NOT call you.

AT&T / DirecTV will actually have legit marketing calls to customers about premiums, protection plans and on rare occasions NFL Sunday Ticket. However they will not call you if you are on the federal Do Not Call list or have opted out directly with AT&T / DirecTV from receiving marketing calls (which you can do online.) Marketing calls are different than an agent asking you for the best contact number they can call or text for customer surveys, important information about your account, company wide outages and to call you back. If you get one of these actual marketing/promo calls and accepted an offer there is a log on the account that it was changed and agents you call into about your account can see this.

There is also scammers/social engineers that target pay-TV customers with information they get from data breaches and other methods. Sometimes they can change your account via the IVR or the provider's website if they have gotten enough information. A lot of people will use the same email & password on a bunch of sites and this is why companies tell customers in general not to use the same password from other sites and to make them complex.

I have opted out of all marketing & promo calls and emails from every company I do business with. So if I get a marketing call or email they are always fake and I can tell right away.

The 3 month free Starz offer is legit.

The scam offer is when they tell you to buy Ebay gift cards and call them back with the card number.

Except that's not the offer in question. It was explained to me as three months Starz and Cinemax, but what I got was free Starz and full-price Cinemax.

If it bothers you, you should call in and get Starz and HBO for free for three months. Most people don't think much of Cinemax..

I don't sign up for those free PROMO months and then make sure you call 1-2 weeks before expiration to cancel, if the case. Or see the expiration lapse and wonder what happened with price increase. lol They keep repeating the movies and series.

Netflix is so much more versatile with a lot more content.......in my case....... Roku for that matter too. To each his own. It is to suck you in and then time on the phone with ATT to try and cancel with hope they will on the first call.

Through Roku app, I might do the Disney +, but have to gather what their programing consists of.... or not. With the ATT DTV Ultimate Package, there is enough programing for my interests. Movies become more of interest over the Wisconsin winter season.
