I'm an Islanders fan, and since they're on the bottom of the MSG/FSNY winter sports totem pole (Rangers, Knicks, Devils, Islanders), this is an important question.

I don't expect to see them in HD too often. Most likely they'll be bounced to the overflow channels when they play. I believe those channels are 627 and 662.

Now that we've received our channels in HD, can we get some confirmation as to whether or not the games on the overflow channels will be in HD as well?

I think Islanders are actually higher than Devils, and you will see them a lot in HD. This year Devils have been on overflow channels a lot more than Islanders. We may even see some road games in HD.

Is there a 3rd NY overflow channel?

I seem to remember that last month I couldn't find the Islanders game on 627 or 662. The next day, I heard about nyoverflow.com I think it may have been on 669 or something like that.

MSG and FSNY do not have an overflow channel for HD. At least they have not used one in the past on Cablevision.

That might just be because Cablevision did not have the bandwidth for an overflow HD channel.

I would expect (hope) that MSG and/or FSNY would be covering each game in HD and depending on the carrier, the game could be in HD.

If the games aren't sent to DirecTv in HD, then this question is moot.

If they are sent to DirecTv in HD, they we need to hear if channels 627, 662 and 669 (supposed overflows for FSNY & MSG) would carry the HD version.

Perhaps we can get some insight from someone in the know (Earl or Satelliteracer)?

Currently, there are not HD overflow channels for MSG or FSN NY in the EPG. if you see 627-1, 662, etc, then there is a chance for an HD feed on the overflow channel

Tonight's Islanders game is an overflow game, it's on 662, and not in HD.

Sabres usually show on 627 NYa as an MSG broadcast (since the loss of Empire Sports).

And as Satelliteracer said in the other thread, there's an expectation that the Sabres games will be in HD "soon," so I would expect that to mean there's hope for HD for your Isles games (when it's on 627).

    Well, that's good news.

Just curious - Being in Buffalo, do you get MSG (621) and FSNY (624) as part of your local sports?

I don't recall being able to get the Sabres on 627 (or Empire before they went under).

Yup, I get 621, 622, 624, 625 as part of my local sports. I don't pay for anything extra, sports-wise.

I *think* if there's a non-Sabres game (ie Isles) on 627, it's blocked out (from what I recall).

Correct, we get MSG and FSNY but all non Sabres hockey games are blacked out. I could see blacking them out when the Sabres are playing, but I don't see why they are blacked out when the Sabres aren't playing that night. We also get YES and SNY.

I understand the need for the overflow channels. Too many teams and not enough channels.

What I don't understand is why they can't show the overflow games on the main channel after the 1st game ends.

For example, Say the Rangers are on MSGHD and the Devils are on FSNYHD and the Islanders are on FSNY2. Later in the evening, after the games are over, they usually re-broadcast the games.

1 - Why can't they show the FSNY2 game later in the evening on FSNYHD?

2 - Why can't they show the re-broadcasts in HD as well? Why is it only the live airing? Does anyone know (I don't remember) if SNY does the same thing for the Mets or if YES does it for the Yankees?

Who knows why they do not replay games in HD. They are recorded in HD. YES replays Yankees and Nets games in HD. I do not remeber what SNY does.

    Welcome fellow Isles fan!

You might want to know that tonight's game against the Panthers is in HD, and tomorrow's game against the Bolts is in HD on HDNET (it wasn't originally in the HDNET schedule, but it is there in the guide as of this morning).

Don't know about MSG and FSNNY, but last night Fox Sports South had THREE channels in HD.

The main one was showing some non-live sports. The two alternates had NHL games on. Both were in HD. (Neither had sound for a while but that is a different issue.) So, if the feeds are available, it looks like DirecTV goes and gets em.

Yeah, I also saw the FSS Plus HD channel listed in the guide. That is a positive sign.

I missed it at first. I was looking for the RSN version of both FSS games and didn't find it because it was not in my favorites.

Alternate feeds are showing up with no fanfare!

The Isles/Lightning game was blacked out on HDNet. Had to suffer with the SD version on FSNY
