I'm not aware of anyone like that, just those who understand the reality of the situation. G4 has been among the lowest rated cable channels available. G4 needs DirecTV more than DirecTV needs G4. DirecTV has an opportunity to use channels like G4 as leverage against Comcast to make other channels (that DirecTV probably wants more) available.

I'm not fond of any channels being dropped, but in this case, understand the business reasons for it.

If only small numbers of viewers are watching, and it costs money that could be better spent on perhaps another more-viewed channel...than those kinds of decisions will continue to be made by all providers.

Yep. Not only does the money being paid to carry the channel have to be considered, but the amount of revenue that channel can generate as well. I'm guessing that G4 couldn't get the job done.

Just doing the calculations, based upon 19m subscribers and a fee of 5c a subscriber. D* would be paying $950K a month for it :eek2: Now if they said they'd use the 5c to fund AMCHD I'd be happy and could find a few more channels to fund BBCAHD too

Everyone has their favorite channels. Like they say one man's trash is another treasure.
To me there are a lot of other networks that could get trashed before G4, but I am sure that each one of us has a different list of which ones would make that list.

That is short sighted. Just because they are making money doesn't mean they couldn't do better. A long term successful business needs to mange the delicate balance between profit and customer satisfaction.

Decisions made now about not keeping up with national HD compared to other direct competitors won't be seen in the current profit/loss statements.

With Dish adding locals to everywhere in the united states, lots more non premium HD and generally lower costs most potential subscribers are going to chose DISH because they don't care about sunday ticket, down res HD or a million full time HD RSNs.

I really think DTV is putting themselves in a bad situation and those Direct TV wins every time commercials aren't so true anymore.

If I had to start all over and chose between the two right now I would have a different brand dish on my roof. When my contract comes up I am going to do a side by side comparison and let the winner come out on top.

PS -- there is always going to be lowest viewed channels no matter how many you cut! Someone still has to be at the bottom, that doesn't make them insignificant.

Lame, IMHO. I simply cannot imagine that the bill to D* is 12M a year. Regardless, I did watch some of the shows, some of the time. I found as an investor in tech/games/consumer products it as a very good source of information into the mind of the 14-27 year old. I recorded a lot of shows and watched them all at once in about 1-2 hours on the weekends. Great reviews on XPLAY and pretty good content on AOTS.

Was it the screen savers, no, but the world has moved on to the blogs for that sort of review/use case content.

    It's real world.

Just ask the Dish folks that lost some Disney channels and then Fox channels.

Knowing today's broadcast industry market helps mitigate those kinds of views.

I am not talking about a single or small bunch of channels.

I was talking to the point you mentioned about DTV is doing everything right because they turned a profit this fiscal period.

The fact is that they are doing well in a down economy...and this is one of many decisions that plays a part in it. Labeling it as an "excuse" opens up the door to questioning on what basis.

Certainly one of the "regulars" anticipated, along with AMC HD, BBCHD, and a few others.

    More HD is good.

I think he was voting to have it taken away (ala G4tv)... not added in HD.

The question is: how many more channels that I care about get "taketh" away? :(
