Indiana is raising their gas taxes effective July 1st. They are moving from 18c per gallon to 28c per gallon - above the 19c of Illinois. Michigan is 26.3c, Ohio is 28c, Kentucky is 29.4c. Additional taxes may apply (in Indiana there is also a sales tax added to the gas tax rate).

The tax, along with other fees raised, will pay for a $1.2 billion highway improvement plan. (Registration fees for most vehicles will rise by $15. The new law also imposes a $50 fee on hybrids and a $150 fee on electric cars.) The law also requires a study of creating toll roads (the existing Indiana Toll Road is leased to a private company).

So while we will see sub $2.00 prices they will not last long. There are a few stations in my area selling for $1.93 today. The average is $2.10 before the tax increase.

So ... 28c gas tax, 8c sales tax, 18.4c federal tax - 54.4c or about a quarter of the pump price in taxes. And the prospect of more toll roads. (The current Toll Road charges $10.52 for a car to travel 157 miles with a 23c increase planned for July 1st and no discount for ezpass or state residents.)

It was up a nickle by the time I needed to fill up. I never get to "buy low". It is the story of my life.

Went up forty cents yesterday, after having gone up a dime the day before. My local price in suburban Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC, is now 2.69/gal.

They said the NE and midwest would be hit the hardest. Here in Colorado gas has only gone up .20 total, .05 on the 28th, .03 on the 29th, .06 on the 30th and again on the 31st and yesterday was almost flat

We were at ~ $2.30 before the storm. Wife paid over $2.50 yesterday. I expect more raises.

Back on July 8, I filled up at the Matthews, NC Costco for $1.98 a gallon. Several days before Harvey hit, I filled up at Costco for $2.11; other area stations were $2.18 to $2.29. By the time Harvey made landfall, Costco was $2.25 and neighboring stations were $2.39. Today, all stations in my area , including Costco, are charging $2.59.

Prices are sneaking back up (last purchase was $2.969). If that doesn't fall I expect May to push the chart upwards.
