I have had a Genie since first released to the public.
I'll get another when DTV allows me to.
I have enjoyed my genie for as long as I have had it. There are just two things I wish I could do with it.
1. It's the only unit active on one side of my SWM 16, I wish there was some way to make it take all 8 tuners.
2. I wish I could sign in to my YouTube account so I could watch my subscriptions instead of having to search for them by title.

I got my Genie a couple weeks ago and so far so good. This weekend I used the PiP feature to watch NASCAR and a baseball game so I switched back and forth between commercials. Both events ended about the same time and wouldn't you know it they interviewed the NASCAR winner and winning pitcher at the same time, so I watched one interview, switched screens and backed the program up and watched the other interview.
I also like the faster changes between channels and even the PiP transion goes pretty good, way faster than my old HR24-200.
3 reasons why I like my HR44-500
1) The speed, much faster then the HR22-100 it replaced.
3) No more recording conflicts.
I like the Genie but did not upgrade yet due to a few factors.
1. Guaranteed availability of the HR44.
2. Cost of the upgrade (I'm pretty much paycheck to paycheck these days with Wife out of work).
3. Did not want to get involved in a new contract. Wanted to see the local cable operators 6 tuner Moxi first. Triple play is cheaper. Though they do not have Oxygen or TVGN (Not even in SD!) So I'm staying with DirecTV.
I love technology but also am kind of in tough times where I can't guarantee whats in store in 2 years time.
I have the Genie and I really like the Genie a lot. I agree with other I think they need more tuners.
I just tried cable here and they have the 6 tuner Moxi. I liked the 6 tuners. But, the DIRECTV Genie/DVR's are much better. My 5 year old even wanted the DIRECTV DVR back.
Great box if we're talking about the HR44. While the HR34 is a good box I wish DIRECTV would just bite the bullet and stop sending them out since they sort of give Genie a bad rep,

love love love My Genie !!! :righton:
I love my HR34, except when it freezes while looking at the program guide, et al...
Give me an HR44 and I would probably love it more.
Let me have at least 2 genies in my house and I'll be absolutely in love. lol... 1 genie, 5 tuners is not enough.
Also, release the next generation genie with more than 5 tuners and capable of 4k. I'll renew my contract for this one <--------------
Genie is good. I like 5 tuners and concept of one 'main' unit for house. But, as others have mentioned, audio/video drop outs, freezing and non-responsive at times. I have been a DTV customer since 1998 and their STBs have never been great.
Love having the Genie. My wife records/watches lots of prime time stuff on the HR34 and I never have any more conflicts and I don't have to coordinate recordings on three HR2x units.
Love the Genie. The speed plus 5 shows recording at once made it perfect. We have 3 additional HD-DVRs' in other rooms but our main watching in from the Genie. There are 38 different shows, over the year and seasons, that we track with the Genie. Will update the other HD-DVRs' in the future because they are just too slow. Having whole-home with the Genie is probably the only reason we have kept DirecTV.
I think the Genie is a very good product. 5 tuners is good. However I wonder why PIP is so challenging to use?
Seems like the feature was an afterthought since to use it is quite a few button pushes and to switch between windows isnt obvious. Particularly with the new menu shortcuts feature PIP seems to be a orphaned.
HR44-700 Genie, I love the speed, 5 tuners, and 100 Series Links!
Got an HR44 and two wireless mini genies when I moved, after having AT&T U-verse. Really like the Genie - much nicer than AT&T's setup, and significantly better than the HR20 I had the last time I was with DirecTV. Love being able to record 5 shows at once.
I Dream of Jeanie, I mean, Genie!
Number of tuners. Speed.
I don't give a fig for PIP, and do wonder how many actually use it.
I love my Genie too! It fits in nicely with the 3 DVRs that also live in the house. Some nights during the early weeks of season premieres I have as many as 8 recordings happening at the same time.
Love my Genie!
I love my genie also
