Well, no luck...Genie was dead and had to do a power plug pull and on its first attempt it AGAIN tried to download and failed 0x987 firmware....which is what was alreayd loaded.......did 2nd time and finally came up. This time just turned on the Min & Genie and nothing was working.

So, called DTV and they are sending out new Genie.
My RC72 remote is setup for my Sharp TV & this Genie........any insights on when I get the new Genie how to get it to see the existing remote would be helpful....I assume it is coming IR enabled. I think i can handle rest of my settings my only other question is re-adding each of the three Minis....I assume simple ?

    Thx !

    OK....just to be clear..........
I have have three Minis with RC72 and they work with RF & correct TV code.
I have one HR23, one HR24 that uses RC32 in IR mode with slider buttons on different settings to control those DVRs/TVs.
The Genie is hooked via HDMI to Sony 80" and to Sony PJ via Component.....basically a mirror function.
The Genie and all Minis/HRs are all in rack in A/V room where the PJ is.
So, I have one RC72 (RF mode) remote in A/V room that works with Genie....all audio/etc thru Amp so currently only Genie control.
The other RC72 (RF Mode) is one floor above controlling the Genie and also the Sony TV.

So........I take it once I swap out the Genie unit in the rack and it comes up I will physically be looking at the Sony PJ screen.
I hold MUTE & ENTER for three seconds while the Genie is on and make sure nothing else is correct ?
This will associate that remote with the Genie ?
If so, I need to do this for two remotes as explained above......can I just repeat the hold MUTE & ENTER for second remote ?
Assuming above works then I need to then config/add the Sony 80" TV to one of them.....think that is easy.
Is there way to have the other RC72 remote control the Yamaha AMP in the Sony PJ room ?

Lastly, any comments/tricks on re-adding the Mini clients to the new Genie ?

    Thx !

Correct. You will need to remove power from the minis while doing the remote set up.

Sure, after the remote is on RF, program ANY TV of your choice FIRST, then follow to program an AUDIO DEVICE>

You need to go to the Whole-Home MEU on the Genie and select MANAGE CLIENTS -> ADD CLIENTS (dont remember the verbatim) then get the PIN code from the Genie and use that to add the mins to the network.

What/Where is the PIN code ?
Obviously, I'm not in this now but I assume it the Genie would "see" each of the Minis and setup automatically ?
Since I will have the Minis power pulled (for remote above) do I re-plug one at time and add or can I power all three on and work sequentially ?

BTW...the Genie I have dies daily.....JUST went thru it AGAIN.
The symptom is we turn on a Min and says "No Server".....I go to the Genie and try to power it on...DEAD, no response.
A RBR will not work all the time...now it typically takes a power plug pull....wait couple minutes.....plug in and Genie reboots gets new (current) firmware and comes up....sometimes firmware download fails and have to repeat. This lasts for about a day at most. I'm almost at the point of ditching the Genie+Minis and go back to a 3rd HR24...my wife wants me to ditch DTV for Comcast....all this has been such a nightmare. Anyway, I know you have no way of knowing but I assume the issue is with the Genie ?.....on the Minis.

No way should you be getting a firmware download every time you repower the device. What version do you have on there now? What messages do you see when you re-power?

NO, You need to go to the Whole-Home MENU on the Genie and select MANAGE CLIENTS -> ADD CLIENTS to get the PIN that you will need to pair the minis

Thx....I assume PIN is on the screen..........but what do I do with the PIN ?
Since I have three Minis I know I'd do this process three times.....PIN for each ?

BTW...just got the new Genie in the mail.
The old one I left unplugged over night and I plugged it in and it booted, and did a Self Check and reboot three times and came up. My wife/I used it to write down our Series Recordings list.
To answer the question above......my old/current Genie hsa the latest 0x987 firmware but it'll re-download on each reboot and it now freezes daily. Since the Genie runs the BIG Sony TV in Den usually the scenario is we are watching the Mini in the bedroom and it freezes.....or we turn on the Mini in the bedroom and says "No Server". I then go to TV with Genie and Genie won't turn on with remote. I go to Genie and try to hit power on front and dead...sometimes a RBR will bring it to life but usually it take a power plug pull......as of late this hasn't worked either. Twice during this process the firmware download failed and got a 799 error......hardware error...call CSR...replace hardware.

You can use the same PIN to pair all three minis

OK...got my replacement Genie (HR44-500) and activated and working.
It did reboot right after it activated and set resolution to download 0x987....hope not bad omen.

Anyway, I cannot get remotes (RC72) to work.
I tried the MUTE+ENTER and no response.
I went into the Remote setup and did a MUTE+SELECT and 981 but not sure.
Anyway, need a step-by-step to get the Genie and two RC72 to comminicate.
Note, since I'm driving two different TVs (one via HDMI, one via Component) I need to set them up both as the Genie but separate TVs.
I DO have all the Minis and HR24s unplugged.

    Thx !

Update....got it all to work......reset the remotes
    MUTE+SELECT + 981.....went to IR mode.
Then did the MUTE+ENTER to get into RF mode.
Then went into program remote and set TV & Amp settings.

Will cross my fingers all this solves the problem.

Well hope I don't jinx myself but so far no reboots on new -500 unit.
Also this Genie runs MUCH faster.....not sure if hardware issue or -500 vs -700.
Also noticed some of the other items we had trouble with in the software (same 0x987) operate correctly on this -500.
    Example,
    1) Used to on 30sec slip if I pushed too many times it jumped to end of program.
    2) If I fast forwarded to end of program I'd have to hit PLAY to get the "do you want to delete" option.
    3) When I did 30sec slip or FFW and hit play it would be paused and have to hit play second time
On the new -500 unit all the above work as they should.

Both were HR44s.....problem one was HR44-700......new one is HR44-500.
It may have just been the hardware issue (eg. memory) that was causing the reboots/locks that also slowed the box and also showed these other odd software behaviors. I just pointed out as FYI in case others reading thread.....but at least for the two HR44s I had the -500 is MUCH faster box.

My HR44-700 works flawlessly, and can press the 30 skip as fast as I can without going to the end of the program. I believe you just had a bad unit.
