I've been getting an overheating message on my Genie. I already have it raised on "stilts", and the cabinet is open in the back and front so there's good air flow around it. What else can I do to keep it from getting too warm?

When we get the message we put an ice pack on top of it and that takes care of it, but it's a pain in the rear. And I'm concerned about it dying.

It is dying. Most likely that the fan is dead or the grill is stopped up and will not allow air to flow thru it.
The Genie will tell you what temp it is.
Instructions for an HR24 since I do not have a Genie.
Menu, Settings & Help, Settings, Info, More Info, now scroll down until you see the temp. What is it ?
My HR24 runs at about 115°. I am suspecting that your Genie is about 140°.

Thanks for the replies. They previously told me I'm eligible for a free upgrade to a Genie2. Have the bugs been worked out of it yet?

If you have a genie and multiple HR units I wouldn’t do it. So do a like for like swap.

I just have a genie and one client, no other HRs.

And it's an HR44. I just checked and it's at 104 degrees after being in use for two hours.

104 is not overheating. But your fan is probably working now.

Watch down any shows you have on that DVR. If you have a number of Series links, make sure you have them written down somewhere as you'll have to re-enter them on a replacement DVR.

Better than Writing Down your Series links - Take a Cell Phone Or Digital Camera Picture of the Series links while displayed on your TV

Right, I wasn't getting the overheating message at that time.

You don't own that HR, right? If you did you could pop the top and put in a new fan. Sounds like your fan has problems.

No, it's a lease. I didn't know you could own them anymore.

I still have a bunch of owned HRs. I bought them years ago but you can still buy them. I even have an owned HR44 with a 3TB internal drive. Shame, it's really easy to replace a fan.

Some have put a PC fan that is powered by the USB port on the DVR and put it so that it is blowing right thru the fan opening and they say it kept it cool. I have not done this but those fans are cheap and you would still have your recordings.
