I had to replace my DirecTV remote with one of the newer Genie remotes (RC73). The Play and Pause buttons are combined on this model. When you press the Play button on the older remote, the time bar displays without pausing the picture. Does anyone know of a way to display the time bar on the Genie without pausing the picture?

There isn’t one. You have to hit the play pause button to see the playbar. It’s a well document complaint by everyone.

Your Genie will also work with the old remotes if you like it better. It will only operate in IR mode. You do not have to do anything to change remotes.

I guess I'll order one of the older remotes on Amazon. The only thing i dont like about the older model is that it's really hard to program it to control the TV.

Get an RC66X model and it should be easy. Just follow the instructions on the screen.

Do what I do- I carry 2 dead remotes in my truck. When I see a DirecTV/AT&T van at a local gas station, I kindly ask if they have any replacements. All the trucks in my area still carry RC66RX remotes. Been doing this on occasion for over 5 years now when they die. It saves the frustration of having to call the PP department to get replacements, or having to purchase them from a different vendor. They never take the dead remotes off my hands.

Go with Jimmie's suggestion, the Genie's have always had this problem. That goofy remote...

I don’t believe that is the case with a genie that uses the the rc7. I think they tossed the two way IR.

I have RC73’s and Packers RC64RB’s that work simultaneously in IR mode, for both our HR54 and C61K clients. We still prefer using the RC6x series....it’s like our old favorite blankie.

My Jets remotes are like the team, don't function well. Figures.

I am referring to the remotes with the x at the end of their model number that did two way communication and therefore where easier to program because you didn’t have to actually enter a code to set them. They came with the HR24 and h24/5 receivers.

I hate the newer remotes. I just recently had my equipment upgraded and mentioned to the tech that I hate the remotes. He gladly gave me the old school remotes as a replacement. And since the old working remotes still worked with the newer Genies, I just continued to use the old remotes I had and have a few extra remotes in case they break. With that said, my primary remote is the Harmony 700 which controls everything :)

the White remotes Will work in IR mode for all Genies (except) the HS-17 as I don't have one to know for sure. Should you Need a RF only remote the Older White RF Models Will NOT talk to the New Genies as the RF code was changed- The RX7 remotes will work in RF to Genies or Minis not to older receivers.
