I have tried calling several times. My HR21 is getting replace, the Hard Drive went bad. The order on the web site says HR20.. despite my calling several time they cannot guarantee that I will get at least a HR21, which is the black receiver. I'd rather have a HR24, but every time I call its the same answer. "We can't control what ships out"..

Any tricks I need to know about to make sure the model that I want ships?

Have an installer come out. Chances are they have an HR24 or at least a 21-23 on the truck.

DTV is worthless when it comes to getting what model you want. I agree with ethos, try and have a tech come out and ask.

Too late , package already shipped, should get it today. Oddly enough they can't tell me what was in there. I am betting that it is a refurbished HR20.. which would suck.

I called 3 times and told them NOT to send me a HR20, that I wanted a BLACK DVR preferably a HR24... I love it when they call they tell me what a loyal customer I am and yet, they can't help me at all.

If its a HR20, I will call and raise heck. I can live with another HR21 but not the HR20.

:eek2: never thought I would ever read that around here....

Why would you give up the coveted HR20 for a lame 21? A receiver should be judged by the content of its hard drive, not the color of its housing!

I concur completely. When my HR 21 started to malfunction a couple of weeks ago and DirecTV sent out a replacement, my last choice would have been another HR21. While I would have (wishfully) wanted an HR 24, I was relieved to see that, at least, I got an HR 22 and not another HR 21. I previously had an HR 20 and an HR 21 simultaneously, and, if I had the choice between the two, I would have taken the HR 20. I saw no difference in response times between the two, and they both have the smaller hard drive, but, at least, the HR 20 has the built in off-air tuner, and it also has the advantage that its off-air tuner has the ability to scan for available channels that the add-on off-air tuner for the HR 21, HR 22, HR 23, and HR 24 doesn't have. And I'd prefer to have a more capable unit than one that is my first choice of colors.
