Getting HR54, will my external hard drive from 44 work with it?

Upgrading to 4k and getting HR54, can I just plug in my external drive from my 44 to the new receiver and be good to go? Have seen some posts on here that somehow the external drives are coded to a particular receiver?

The External HDD will be reformatted when switched to a new DVR. Reformatting will cause everything on the HDD to disappear - permanently.

Doesn't any OTA recordings (if the TS has any), remain?

Wrong, it won't be reformatted. It's already formatted in the HR44 and the HR54 will see it formatted correctly and not reformat. The recordings will show up but not be playable because they are tied to the HR44.

I've never had an HDD reformatted. Seems like once they're formatted that's it.

I have moved many external drives between my HR44, HR24's (three), and even my old HR20 and all OTA recordings are there and accessible.
