May have asked this before so regret if repeated.

Have LG OLED E55910 1080P HDTV. No plans to implement 4K in foreseeable future. I want the HS17 to take advantage of new technology improvements. Simply put, will switch from current HR44 to HS17 be counter productive?

Hit me with your best shot.........

If you only have the one Directv receiver (HR44) and it is connected to your LG OLED and you upgrade to an HS17, you will gain 2 additional tuners, but you will be required to get a Genie mini to attach to your TV, because there are no video connections on the HS17 Genie 2. Also, you can ONLY have Genie minis for other TV's on your account. No other Directv receivers are allowed on the same account with the HS17. In addition, the HS17 is currently only available in Georgia, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Sacramento. August is the expected national release timeframe.

Your signature says you have an AM21. That won't work with the HS17.

Given an apparent inconsistency between the equipment in your signature and the equipment that you listed in your second post, please list all of your equipment so that people can answer based on the content of your system, rather than speculate and then coming up with opinions & cautions based upon that speculation.

My suggestion would be to Wait - If your not doing 4K then the HS17 is really not for you at this time. - if you were going to stream 2 4K feeds to two locations then it would be the way for you to go.

Another way to look at it is "thinking" of the First genie HR34 - the hs17 is just out - same as when the 34 arrived Now D* is no longer asking for them to be returned - so waiting may be a good thing.

HS17 Does NOT Connect direct to any TV - you can only have a RVU TV enabled or a wired or wireless genie's - no other "older" type of receivers are supported when you have a HS17 on your account. SO if you enjoy using your am21 -WAIT for 4K as it will not work with a HS17

Do we know if the C61K audio drop out issue with the HR54/C61K has been fixed with the HS17/C61K combination?

It is a firmware issue on the C61. It happens also with a HR44/C61k combo

The only reason to go to an HS17 is for 7 vs 5 tuners, or you want the 2TB HDD, or you have two 4K TV's (vs. HR54 supports only 1), or you need more than 3 clients.

Aside from those items, stay with HR44 or 54 if you have either and all is good.

The lack of supporting AM21s, other HR's such as HR24s, are downers for alot of folks.

    Dripping...
I never had the problem with my C61K with either the HR54 or HS17, but did have it with a Samsung TV when using the RVU client.

Advice, please. I just got an LG OLED E7P. I've had an HR44 since it was first released (I was a beta tester). I also have two HR24s. I'm ready for my free upgrade. Should I go with the HR54/C61K 4K solution, or wait for the HS17? Keep in mind that I won't qualify for another free upgrade until June of 2019. Recommendations?

My set is a C6 (I needed 3D and managed to track one down) I really like it. Wound up getting a player, too.

Unfortunately (for me, at least) I just don't think that there's anywhere near-enough 4k content to make upgrading worth worrying about at this time.

However, if you like the genie/client system and you aren't concerned about the "incompatibility" issue with the older H/HRs, the 17 would probably be the way to go.

Otherwise, the HR54 system would be needed for use with "legacy" equipment on the same account. (IOW really depends on whether you want to keep those 24s going.)

My first impression of 4k was that (if not for lack of content) I might be willing to ditch my old equipment or even start a new account.

If only there were at least ten 4k channels (even if they were premiums) I'd almost be there...

We already knew that a few months ago from the user guide that was posted. Until they start using reverse band (slated for Q3 2018) there's no difference using an HS17 on a SWM LNB or SWM 8/SWM 16, and using it with a reverse band LNB or DSWM30.

I currently use that setup and suggest you make the same move - by the time more 4K content arrives you will be ready for the next (upgrade after the HS17) that will be coming based on past experience
