There will never be universal agreement on HR54 vs HS17. Let's just accept it.

Just like cell phones, cars, TVs, homes, schools, you name it. We each have our preferences and bias.

Without members doing that how would we know if it was a widespread problem or just a one time thing, specific to a poster's system? We've said this before, many times. We should be glad we see varying opinions...I think.

A lot of the "usual suspects" are or have been beta testers. I still belong to that group even tho I've never engaged in the actual tests. These "suspects" have a lot of knowledge and when they post I think we should consider the information they offer as something valuable. No need to feel slighted, this is a good thing.

Yes Rich I get that. But they NEVER or ALMOST never publicly say they have issues, their equipment is always perfect, etc.
Guess fear of getting booted by DIRECTV and gravy train.

So all that does is gives us regular folks here false information to go on.

All of them with H17s say best since sliced white bread. Then when H18 hits, that one is and H17 sucked.

Seen it here with every DVR so far.

So we regulars get excited, get new and latest equipment and see it blows.
Talked to at least 10 installers about the H17, all say it BLO WS! Nothing but problems etc.
Finally got DIRECTV to give me one, since I have 2 4K TVs. Installer talked me out of it and said wait for Gen2.

So please dont say these “knowledgeable beta testers....”

They are shills and want to stay on the gravy train. It gives regular joes a false sense of DIRECTV as well.

A "usual suspect" chiming in. In the past I've reported issues with the HR22 (picture freezing issue), the HR34 (pixelating issue) and the C61K -700 (audio drop out issue) so to say we never have issues is horse sh*t. And yes, there have been times when others reported a issue where I've responded not experiencing the issue because it's the truth.

My HS-17 (test unit) carcass minus hard drive ended up with Best Buy recycling along with my leased HR44. DirecTV did not want to recover either after I cancelled. They did recover the C61K’s and C41W’s.

Yes, there were some testers who got disgruntled with the HS17, but more so with the treatment by AT&T, their combined billing, attitude towards long time subscribers and lack of customer service.

Strong feelings. So, how are we to know if a problem is spread across the country or is just a one time, one subscriber problem? Yes, I understand why you get annoyed at some of the "usual suspects" but without their input we'd be lost. Everyone that has an issue thinks it's the most important issue out there and most of the time it's not. If we didn't have folks disagreeing we'd have to think every issue was widespread and that rarely happens (unless you let nitwits design a new GUI or something of that sort).

By all means, vent your frustration here, but keep in mind everyone's opinion is valued and assessed. The members we retain that still do the beta-testing should be appreciated and not lumped into such a group as "usual suspects", I think.

Oh, BTW, I have absolutely no interest in the 17s. I agree with you on that.

Rich, I hundred percent get you and that’s why I haven’t said much in a real long time or since I’ve been on this board. But again look at the trans when ever somebody here post a problem it always seems to be I never have an issue I never have a problem it must be you it must be your TV. Now maybe these people truly don’t have problems but what are the odds of that? They get all the good equipment and the average person gets the bad stuff. After a while it makes you think and feel cynical over these people.

Selma these people are moderators and I’m sure they like being moderators or they don’t want to be kicked off the board or beta testing. I was a moderator on another form and if I had an issue about something from a company that was paying us to advertise I cannot express it. Even when a board member would have an issue and I know is a known issue I could not say anything. They knew what equipment I was running so they would ask me but I had always had to say I was OK, my equipment was good, I don’t have these issues.

If I heard one of these beta testers moderators, “usual suspects” having similar issues or explaining the issues to people more I would have these feelings. Get what I mean? But yes those people are valuable those beta testers to bring information to this board.

I understand. But reads what some of the "usual suspects" write from time to time. Inkahauts is a valuable resource and is a beta-tester. He does have issues from time to time and shares them freely. Carl6 is both a mod and a tester and is another great source of information. Mystery Man is also a tester and posts frequently. I can go on and on. Once again, we NEED these folks.

Yes, I understand "I don't have this problem" is not what anyone with a problem wants to hear. It used to annoy me but now I see the value.

BTW, I seem to have gotten into an argument because I stated I did not want any part of the D* 4K mess particularly the HS17. After all I've read about the 17s I simply don't have an urge to get one. When the argument began I had just replied to your post about the 17s and I found the situation I was in amusing. I don't remember which thread that's in but I will send you a link and perhaps you can restate your view of the HS17s...

Here's that link: HR44 is dying, go to HR54 or HS17?

Since this forum is about the equipment and service and not for making disparaging remarks about other members we'll end this thread.
