When I was in Australia last year, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they get the American late-night talk shows, including "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report," within hours after they air in the U.S. (of course, because of time zones, it's the next day). But, yeah, from looking at the TV listings, it did seem that the prime-time shows were airing at least a few months behind.

Torrents and VPN will become your friends :)

Then you'll be browsing online for Australian on-line stores that sell US goods

    Stay away from the Vegemite

Congratulation on the new job. I use to work in Perth Australia for two years. I have no regrets on taking the job.

Just remember do NOT drink Foster's and do learn the rules of Rugby.

We spent a month's vacation in Australia in 1985 -- best vacation trip we ever took! Foster's tasted pretty good back then at least. And the wine was good too.

My sense is that footy is more popular there than cricket, although maybe that's because I was down there during the season (would have loved to have gone to a game if my schedule had worked out).

Congratulations, isn't kind of an honor to get work in Australia? I've heard the work visas are tough to get.
I had a friend who designed gas fireplaces there, she said food portions are smaller, just another example of the gluttonous American culture I guess!

    Godspeed!

I did consider that, but There is no such animal as unlimited usage down under. Your Internet has a cap and once you exceed it, you are slowed to dial up speed. I'll just have to go without. I am sure I can find something to watch :)

This is one of the things I found surprising about Australia. That and their wanting to censor things, they apparently even want to censor iPhone apps. Apparently Apple isn't doing enough of it themselves.

But it does sound like it has perks being down there as well. Good luck!

That might be a problem, DirecTV usually has to get them back unless you are SURE you own rather than lease them.
