Got a Great Deal

    Although I do read the forum on a weekly basis to see what's new, I don't post very often. But today, I am posting about the great deal that I got from DTV.

    I called DTV to cancel the HD Extra Pack. The only channel that I watched was the Smithsonian Channel. While talking to the CSR (Cassie or Casey), she asked if I was happy with my programming. I told her that I was, but that I may consider switching to the local cable company (Bright House) because they had one heck of a deal going for $97 including internet. Upon hearing this, she switched me over to retention.

    After being switched over and talking to the retention CSR, I told her the same that thing that I had told the previous CSR. She pulled up my account and said "Today is your lucky day". I told her that if it was, then it's my first lucky day this year. To make a long story short, I ended up getting a total of $60 off in credits, the biggest being $20 off of my programming (Choice Extra Classic), and $10 and $5 off of a combination of other packages. And to top it off, I'm getting the new Genie and Genie mini at no cost with a 2 year agreement, and the Sunday Ticket for free.

    For me, it doesn't get much better than that.

    Nice deal, but somebody in this forum will probably rip you for threatening to leave in order to get discounts. :)

    Technically the thread starter wasn't asking for discounts. He said he just pointed out the alternate attractive cable offer and DirecTV took it from there.

    Yeah, I just called them to cancel the HD Extra Pack. Had the CSR not asked me if I was happy with my programming, that would have been the end of the call.
