Starting on 8/6/19, you will no longer be able to view your local channels with some of your current DIRECTV equipment. All you need to do is call us to order your new equipment. There’s no additional cost* to you.

Interesting, that is a different date than they have given to other people.

it's been know for a while now that DirecTV has been phasing out MPEG-2 legacy DVRs/receivers in favor for the current DVRs/recievers that are MPEG-4 friendly and removing the MPEG-2 SD feeds and replacing them with MPEG-4 SD channels. so pretty much, you should had known now that DirecTV is ending it's MPEG-2 support due to it being obsolete.

if you already have HDTV sets but aren't getting HD versions of your channels, then it's time to upgrade, if you still have old SDTV sets and can't afford to replace them or prefer the old obsolete TVs, then just upgrade your DirecTV equipment but get adapters to make the Genie or Genie mini work for a old TV.

Just continues to be strange the way these letters are worded as though only MPEG-2 SD locals will be affected. With no mention of MPEG-2 national channels as well.

This kind of description, if accurate, would indicate that DIRECTV only intends to turn off the DBS Ku-band LiL spotbeams from 101W (and cease broadcasting from 119W altogether as planned of course).

I expect different markets to get different timelines.

I suggested years ago this may be their method, to do locals first market by market...

Pretty sure I recall one person posting a letter that wasn't about locals that gave April 1st as the date, which is why I thought it odd that this person's letter lists a date AFTER that. Maybe the April 1st date is getting pushed back, because it wouldn't make any sense to drop someone's locals after the national MPEG2 SD channels go away...

I guess it would make too much sense for Directv to have this information on their web site somewhere

The title is wrong, his post says 2019. If they were notifying him now of something happening in two weeks that wouldn't leave a lot of time for getting new receivers, etc.
