People ask "what are differences between the 2 packages?" Someone says "17 channels". You post that you have an email that "contains all the specific plan content."

It's not that far of a reach to ask you to share the information about those differences. No one asked you what you pay.

No one mentioned the "Premium program". This thread is about the differences between Total Choice Plus and Choice Extra which is the current equivilent to the "Grandfathered package". Show me where that's detailed. Give me a post number so I can find it.

The opening post says "The CSR says I will be getting 17 additional channels". Where has that been detailed?

The OP indicated 17 additional channels....which can pretty much only come from that delivery option if it's in addition to Choice Plus.

Otherwise...you're welcome to come up with your own conclusion.

I didn't draw a conclusion. As a matter of fact, no one who posted drew that conclusion until you did. And that only happened after I tried to get real information from you.

The OP didn't say it was an upgraded package. The OP said "current".

I could have said do the math, but didn't.

There are only a very few alternatives for where those 17 channels could originate. I recommended you look at the contents of the Premier package - no idea if you did, of course.

Can't help anyone more than that....

Good luck....at this point, you're on your own.

And I could have said your post about you being impressed about the email has nothing to do with the topic and was just you stroking DirecTV, but I didn't.

I won't dignify that statement....as I also got the same kind of call, a similar (but different) offer, and was posting valid information here accordingly.

In addition, unlike others, I submitted the answer to your main question...which was which channels (or where would those come from).

That's all in the spririt of the thread and the original question.

    Best wishes.

They are the same the only difference was one of the sports channels in the low 600s for a bit and I think Plus had it and Xtra didn't.

Ill bet the CSR goofed, and was comparing the new Choice Xtra with the OLD Choice (Not PLUS), that would be about a 17 channel difference.

In any case, I have lifetime DVR service, so Im sticking it out with TCP+HD.

Yea, just got this SAME BS call from D*, gleefully telling me they'll give me Premier FREE for 5 months, along w/NST. Of course, I asked if I could go back to TC+ AFTER I canceled it & (of course) not. BUT, I would be getting 17 more channels - oh really, so what ARE those channels???

ALL the video ones he half-a$$ rattled off I get EVERY one now, then rattled off those SONIC TAP spanish music channels - told him I don't speak spanish, so I could care less about them! (he didn't even know they were music channels anyway)

Then, since I was now pi$$ed off after that attempted scam, I then mentioned I thought their premium offerings were the pits & that I was seriously looking at switching to U-verse, since they DO carrying EVERY premium feed out there. Of course then he lied some more, because he said the ONLY difference was that U-verse carried west feeds (BIG-A$$ LIE!), then added that D* carried MORE Starz & Encore feeds (another LIE).

I finally said not at interested & said thx, then warned several (grandfathered) friends of this "offer" probably coming their way... :nono2:

    FWIW -

I have a grandfathered Total Choice (not PLUS) with HBO and STARZ! package.

I've looked into dropping HBO, but to do so I'd have to go with a current package.

The last time I compared my current channels with the website listings for the various packages (Oct '08) this is what I found:

I get everything currently in CHOICE and the following channels that are listed as being in the current CHOICE EXTRA package:

    Discovery Health
    ESPN Classic
    Fox Reality
    Golf Channel
    Speed Channel

So if I were to "upgrade" to the current Choice package, I'd lose all 11 of the above channels, some of which I do watch.

CHOICE XTRA channels I don't get:

    BET J
    Fox Movie
    Great American Country
    History International
    Investigative Discovery
    Military Channel
NHL (may be because it's off season and not operating now?)
    Planet Green
    VH1 Classic

The only CHOICE XTRA channel I really would like to get but don't is Fox Movie. This is especially irritating since it formerly was included in my package.

I also get everything listed in the current FAMILY package with two exceptions:

Are you sure about that? I dropped the movie channels a few months back and was able to keep my grandfathered TC+ package. I tried the transaction online first and it was going make me change my base package. I spoke on the phone with a live CSR and it was handled with no problems and no change in my TC+ package.

Yes, because my package is not "Total Choice" plus separate subscriptions to HBO and Starz, but "Total Choice with HBO and STARZ!" as one package. Have spoken to several CSRs on this over the last year or so. Every time I call in about something else I bring it up -- so far I've gotten the same answer every time.

Haven't checked the numbers lately, but to drop HBO, I'd have to switch to current CHOICE, and lose those 11 channels (several of which I do watch). Locals would then not be an extra charge item, as they are now for me, as there were no locals when I started this package. It nets out to a saving of something like $2/month. So in effect, I'm getting HBO and those 11 channels for 2 bucks. Just makes sense to stay with what I've got.

When I upgraded from SD to HD I was able to keep Total Choice Plus (still have it).

That was in Jan '07 so I don't know if they still allow grandfathered upgrades but they did in the past.

I have had TC (not +) since '00. I have added and removed movie subscriptions and the sports pack, all within the past 2 years. I believe I have to call the CSR to have this done, but no problems. I have also used the Movers' Connection twice w/o issue.

I just see no reason to change. Just like some of the other posters, I would lose some channels I actually watch if I went to Choice - and pay more. Moving to Choice Xtra would give me back the channels I watch, and add some more that I would, but not at that price.
