Guide data for WBTS NBC Boston in Spanish

    Our channel 10's (WBTS - NBC Boston) guide data turned to all Spanish yesterday. No other channel has done this (that we've seen so far).

    Even the description of the shows (INFO) are all in Spanish.

    This is a strange one for sure...

    I just 'Google' searched a few of the shows - it looks like our guide on channel 10 (on both of our DVR's, btw) has been replaced with Telemundo programming.

    One other bit of info on this - the guide data for channel 10 on our Tablo DVR is correct - the actual channel 10 programming.

    Was looking all over the internet for an answer to this one... just noticed it this morning. Doesn't look like there's anything on the DirecTV/ATT site to explain why channel 10 has spanish listed shows....

    Friends of ours in the next town with D* are seeing the same thing.

    I only noticed this today, live in Worcester, direct tuning still gets to NBC but it turns off any scheduled DVR recordings. Looks like it just started today for me as well.

    The friend I spoke of in an earlier post here called and got a $20 credit because 'Days of Our Lives' didn't record for his wife. So, I know at least one phone call was made to D* before your chat. :eek:

    The guide data is Telemundo's programming. I don't know the details, but one of the frequencies impacted by the repack involves Channel 10, Providence RI and Telemundo. I wonder if this has something to do with that? The guide data people pulled the trigger on the change too soon?

    Either the frequency or call letters used by Channel 10 were supposed to move to Providence and be their Telemundo channel. A different frequency and call sign was then going to be our channel 10 in Boston. (It's all NBC, by the way, they own Telemundo.) I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think I remember reading about this some time ago.

    I just did a Google search for 'Channel 10 Boston'. The first link takes you to the WBTS website as it should. What's interesting, however, is the right side panel that usually shows details about the business you are searching for.

    In that side panel it shows WYCN - the old call letters for NBC-10 in Boston. WYCN is used for Telemundo in Providence now, as I said above. In that side panel it also lists former callsigns for WYCN:

    W32AY (1995–2002)
    WTMU-LP (2002–2016)
    --> WBTS-LD (2016–2019)

    I think the guide data company D* uses is confused by this.

    From Wikipedia: In October 2019, WYCN-LD moved its transmitter to Norton, Massachusetts, changed its city of license to Providence, Rhode Island, and switched its affiliation from NBC to Telemundo for that market, leaving WBTS-CD as the sole NBC station for the Boston area.

    So, in a nutshell, D* has WYCN's guide data (Providence) on our channel 10 slots instead of WBTS's guide data (Boston).

    There may be some progress on this - the guide data is correct today in the D* apps on both my Android tablet and iPhone.

    I'm happy to see this thread. This issue started yesterday for me and I couldn't find any info on this until now. When I checked the listings yesterday morning on the NBC 10 web site they also had the Telemundo listings so their own web site had incorrect listings data. Then later in the day their listings were correct.

    I called D* and spoke to a technical support person about this. They are aware of the problem and working on it to resolve. No time estimate but since a 3rd party guide data site is involved I have a feeling this will be a tough one to get corrected right away.

    You are correct as usual. Actually, I'm surprised the CSR knew as much as he or she did (which was nothing except for what to say to get him off the phone). :eek:

    Did you see the thread about one of us who canceled his ATT ISP account and they canceled his D* service? This gets more ridiculous every day. Here's a link to that thread, he got things straightened out, fortunately. To make folks go thru things like this is awful. God a HATE AT&T now!
