Why does it take the guide so long to re-populate the fields after a system reset? It's 24 hours later before the process is complete, and even then, you have to go and check that it's done everything correctly. I found that a couple of first run episodes had been missed on several shows. Admittedly, all I had to do was select the record icon on the relevant field to fix it, but it seems slow and not 100 percent reliable? :)

because of bandwidth constrain what require a lot of time for transmitting huge number of records [APG] for populate local DVR databases

Then maybe it would make sense to offer a partial reset that leaves the guide alone?

I forgot to mention, if the guide data gone from DVR storage (by any reason), the amount of time will be significantly long, but if it's exist, it will will be updated incrementally, by compare version number for each record (say a channel or event) between stored and others coming from a sat APG streams.

At the same time the Guide is rebuilding, the receiver is buffering at least 1 channel and possibly more so that when you turn it on a few minutes late to see a show that you were missing you can back up to the start and watch it.
A few years ago the Reset did not wipe out the Guide like it does now. That was one of the reasons for the CLEARMYBOX so that it could wipe it out and start over.
In the future make sure that you have a few hours of time before the next recording is supposed to start and you should be ok.

It has always taken(Since the days of HD Content) 24 to 48 Hrs for the 14 day guide to fully re-populate

There is a lot more to the Guide than meets the eye if you did deeper.
Once a name is loaded and you press Info, there is a lot of data loaded for that Info.
Then there is the Cast & Crew,
Then the Filmography of TV and Movies for each of the Cast and Crew, etc.
Lots and lots of data that is not on the surface that all has to be redownloaded from the satellite.

I just think that the software should be smart enough to ignore the Guide on a reset. Nothing in the Guide is going to change, so why go to the trouble of rewriting it?

Why did the user reset? If there was a problem caused by corrupt guide data clearing said data and starting fresh is a good idea. I do not know why DIRECTV went with such a slow update. The slow feed works good for updating changes and the 14th day out ... not so good for situations where the guide is wiped out.

Take a power 'brown out' for example. Occasionally, we'll see those in our area. The power will blink out and come back ten seconds later, but the Genie is now in full reset mode, including rebuilding the Guide. I think that the Guide should be excluded by default, but can included via a check box.

A UPS works great for that problem. I used to have those very often. Just a blip, sometime the light did not even appear to flicker. My UPS will keep the DVR running about 30 minutes. You will not regret putting one in the line to support the Genie.

I'm agree - you must protect your DVR by UPS; I would connect to it PI also [and a SWiM switch if any]

APC Smart model have Ethernet, RS-232 ports , so you could control it from PC, schedule regular tests, see voltage fluctuations, load, etc

I'll agree with getting a UPS. It is a shame that a power cycle causes such a deep reset. I thought you were referring to an intentional reset (such as the "red button reset" on some models). Then again, power cycling is also a common way to reset equipment.
