For about two months my H20 would randomly show "searching for satellite signal." A RBR would bring it back to reality. I then swapped it for another receiver in a cooler location. It lasted about three weeks before the first "searching...signal" returned. After about a week and a half it has finally passed away. :(

I called D* yesterday and the young lady said I would have to pay for another one, ($100) along with shipping ($20), or sign up for equipment protection for a year. :uglyhamme I hung up on her.

I called this AM, de-activated it, and got a free replacement. I still will have to pay for shipping and "funeral/burial" service for the old one. :)

Anybody else having the same symptoms? Be prepared.

It might not be the Receiver. Do you have other HD Receivers or DVRs? Do they have the same problem? How are your satellite signal readings?

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

h20-600 death is a known phenomena, subject to recall. The original ones ran extremely hot. So much so that it helped heat a cold basement guest room I kept it in. Revised ones have an ECO 2.0 sticker underneath.

Same problem here as the OP. A slow death and today it is gone. I tried it in two other locations in the house where there are functioning receivers. No luck. Got this one as a refurb for free through the customer loyalty program. Obviously the refurb that was done didn't work too well.

Sorry to quote the entire post, I'm being lazy. The unit's video output ceased, and all it would do after being unplugged for an hour was have the resolution lights on the front slowly cycle.

It's dead. Call DirecTV for a replacement.
