I didn't own a HDTV until after the H20-100 0x4176 release so I can't confirm that 1080p support is new. I can however confirm that the

System Setup/HDTV menu, TV Resolutions tab has a 1080p tickbox (I have it ticked since my TV supports it). However, so far, the best my TV has reported is 1080i.

The only way to get 1080p via DirecTV is to order one of the 1080p PPV's from DirecTV (or watch the first 5 minutes for free).

Actually I've watched a couple 1080p movies on D* that were NOT PPV. If you take the time to dig through the 1000 series channels you'll find that there is free content there.

My bad. While I specifically mentioned PPV, I kinda lump that and VOD together. The point I was trying to make was that regular TV will not be in 1080p. :)
