I just received a refurbed H21 from Directv. Now I'm thinking I should return it before I activate and get an R-22 from Solid Signal. I do already have HD, DVR, and unsupported MRV services. No SWM. This receiver (H21 or R22) will be replacing an R16.

Couple things I'm not sure of...
    1. Does the R22 play well with the unsupported MRV? (Can't imagine why it wouldn't, just not sure)
    2. Does the R22 support 1080p?
    3. Anyone one have a suggestion/reason to keep the H21 over getting an R22?
    4. I assume the R22 does not require SWM.

    Thanks for any help/advice.

It works fine with MRV, s long as you keep both your current HD boxes. To DirecTV, this is an SD box even with HD service. I don't know if it ever needs replaced, the chance of getting an R16 is.

SWM is not required. It's essentially an HR21 in terms of hardware.

Ask yourself this question; how will you feel if/when the R22 fails and is replaced by an R15/16?

The R22 is an HR21 with slightly different software. I personally think that's an awful lot of trouble to go through to get an HR21 (and possibly have it replaced by an SD receiver later.) I'd call D* and see what you can negotiate on an HD DVR.

Thanks hadn't thought of the replacement. But there is no way I'd let that happen.

It's really not much trouble at all, just sending it back (at their expense) and ordering another online; maybe 10 minuets of my time total. I just got a second free HDDVR from Directv last week, so my negotiating stance is small.

More than anything I'm a little upset I paid for an old refurbed model when I can pay the same price for a new unit.
