IF you were supposed to get a "free" gift from D* when you signed up for service, please check the appropriate box.

I was supposed to get a Home Depot Gift Card when I signed up in February '07.
Although I've asked about several times, I've still not received my lavish gift.

Did you do the sign up through a referral number? (basically did you get a brochure or card and called the number on the back?) Some of the referral numbers are being run by the company that you signed up through. So basically even though it is a D* promotion, the company (like Home Depot, Circuit City, etc) supply the gift card or freebie. To be honest I would only do a retail setup at Best Buy just because they give you the promo or free up front. Like for instance you get $300 of a $1000 HDTV or more when you sign up for new D* service at Best Buy. Now that is a promo, no waiting, no hassel. Free money!

I appreciate the effort, but I'm not really asking for escuses or alibis.
I dealt with DirecTV, and they gave me a choice of a portable DVD player or a HD gift card.
Where or who it comes from is of no consequence to me.
If I would have wanted a 2X4 or a bathtub, I would gone to Home Depot, but I was ordering satellite service.

Hope you don't mind, but I added the does not apply option since the OP qualified the question anyway. And the does not apply option applies to me. :)

    Cheers,
    Tom

    Tom,
    I do mind.
I clearly stipulated in the question "IF you were supposed to get a "free" gift ".

Your added selection is completely irrelevant to the poll.
IF you were not supposed to get a free gift, then DON'T vote.
You basically added the option for votes that do not pertain to the poll question so that you and others could vote on a poll that doesn't apply to you.

I'll go back and add more weight to the IF.

Wow, I feel told off. I'm not sure what the problem is; this way we all can see the results of the poll without extra clicks. And you can see the scale of the poll in the big picture.

But, if you want, I can:
    • Remove the extra item right now
    • Edit the title of the poll to be more clear about the IF clause
    • Remove the extra item when it's time to close the poll (so we all can watch the poll progress)
    • Leave things alone
    All your choice.

    Tom

Erm sort of. DirecTV definitely sent it, but it mysteriously disappeared at UPS. I was very busy at the time and just going to re-gift it anyways, so it didn't bother filing a claim.

I guess I'm just a little edgy from all those years of being micro-managed.
    Leave it. Change it. Whatever.

Since I ripped Tom publicly, I should also apologize publicly.

We've traded a couple of PM's and I better understand his reasoning for adding the last option.

I was given the choice of leaving it or removing it.
That's important, because it tells me that he's interested in a good forum experience for everyone, and not just being a heavy-handed mod.

The option stays, because it gives non-participants a means by which they can easily follow the results.

Was supposed to get $150 for switching to D*

They called it the directv150offer and even had a website set up as directv150offer.com.

I'm still waiting some 7 months later.

I like D*, though, so I'm not too bitter about it.

The poll really doesn't apply to me since I received both my rebate and free DVD player already, but both arrived way later than your poll brackets. This was 3 years ago so I'm fuzzy on the details, but it was something like 6 months to get the rebate check and 9 months to get the DVD player.

I was supposed to get a free Disney dvd from D* about 2 years ago. Only thing I got was monthly applications for a Disney Visa card!

I didn't vote because I can't remember how long it took, but I did get my free DVD player. I remember it took a little longer than they said it would.

It was a home DVD player--they were out of stock on the portable.

It is the most confusing DVD player I've ever seen. Not user friendly at all, but it WAS free, and it does work.
