I watched a few minutes last night, just to see if it was HD. The quality was quite a bit better than the episodes I've watched on the SD channel. I'll have to try zooming it. In the meantime, let's bombard FX with e-mails. :)

Zooming doesn't make it better, just gets rid of the stupid windowbox. What surprised me was that after zooming the image (which I expected would be so-so at best), was crisp and detailed. Not quite HD, but maybe what would happen if your confused new HD station staff had taken the HD feed and matted it like they would with SD.

Certainly if it was SD, it was the best SD I've ever seen on my TV. Comparing it to SFHD signals of the same sort, it was much better. A mystery, really.

I hope the Damages marathon Saturday is in HD. I've only watched the first three or four episodes so far.

As far as The Shield is concerned, it has always been shown in 4x3, even on the DVDs. I wonder if the upcoming "final" season will be in 16x9 HD.

I haven't yet seen an actual HD broadcast (meaning actual HD in 16:9) on FX yet. I'm sure that will gradually change as this and the other new HD stations get their infrastructures in place.

[ O.T. I had the D* Tivo based HR10-250 for a while.....and while the early version of the D* HR20 (either 700 or 100) had some issues, those have largely been resolved through software upgrades. I wouldn't let that stop you from signing with D*.]

Has anyone successfully used Search by Title to find any shows on FX-HD? Without first having to do a reboot?

There's a mini-marathon of Nip/Tuck this Satruday 10/20, but Search by Title and Keyword can not find any results for FX-HD. Nip/Tuck is not in the list of programs when I search by title.

I took the above photos on Monday afternoon, but as of this morning, search still can't find FX-HD programs. (Click the thumbnails for full-size photos.)

Same thing happened to me after they added MGMHD. A reboot fixed it.

FYI, the first time programming shows up on FXHD with the HD tag in the guide is on Tues. Oct 31. I was looking to mark the series link for Nip/Tuck, and not only is it marked as HD, but so is all the programming for that day (movies, etc).

The first HD on FXHD that I see is Elektra at 5:30pm on 10/30. Then Fever Pitch, and two episodes of Nip/Tuck. After that, the next HD is 5:00pm on 10/31, Fever Pitch again.

so they are just slow to getting those HD shows out? I can understand having shows in upconverted SD, but I can't understand not having movies in HD (it's already filmed widescreen and high quality).

I'd imagine that their HD playout equipment just isn't ready yet. Upconverting the SD feed is simple, actually sending out HD content is much more involved. Once they start on 10/30, all of the more recent movies should be in HD from then on.

Funny that since Murdoch still controls both D* and FOX, FOX wasn't better-prepared for the HD rollout. /steve

My bad, I meant 10/30, as that is the Tuesday, lol. And yes, I'm seeing the same thing as you, definitely excited to see season premiere of Nip/Tuck in HD :)

It seems to me that D* basically released several of these HD channels, so they could meet their prestated numbers, even tho these channels do not have any content when they are released. Pretty slick marketing by them.

Personally I could care less how many HD channels they have, it's all about WHAT is in HD on those channels. So far, I've been less than thrilled. Besides MLB playoffs on TBSHD, I've yet to find any new content worth watching that is in HD.

I bet they were planning on starting HD broadcasts to coincide with the start of Nip/Tuck all along, seeing as it's the highest rated show on basic cable.

True, it's not that bad at all, I've recorded a few movies from it that I haven't watched yet. But I'd say like 85% of the movies on there I would never have any interest in (so far). Plus, MGM will be one of the channels in the HD Xtra pack, that I don't plan on subscribing to. If I wanted to pay more for my programming, I'd get something like HBO or Showtime that has original series.

I already have a 5-at-a-time subscription to Netflix, so movie only channels really don't interest me. Neither do all the reality based channels (ala Discovery, Science, etc). Altho I must admit, since the addition of FOODHD, I have recorded a few shows off there, lol.

Did anyone else notice the severe audio dropouts on the most recent airing of Damages on FXHD. I was getting about 5 dropouts per minute. Very annoying.

FYI, I live in the DC area and my 103b strength readings are between 75 and 85.

There will be absolutely no HD until 10/30. That's just the way it is, so you just need to put your disappointment on hold.
