    Good morning,

I have a question for everyone or for the people who can answer it. I am a DTV FSM and in our DMA (Topeka, KS) we do not have HD Locals, but DISH network does. I have sent off a few emails from time to time to my higher ups and have not gotten a straight answer on why we do not have them. I do not know if this is because Dish does the part time HD programming and our locals are only broadcast in HD part time or if a contractual agreement was met.

The reason I am asking about it is because we lose customers on a daily to weekly basis because of the fact we do not offer HD Locals in the Topeka, KS DMA. Any information you can supply would be grateful, as this is one of our keys to success in our DMA.

Here's this month's local channel uplink change report, based on transponder map data from gct and doctor j and modeled after Sixto's national HD reports.

Keep in mind, these changes were as of April 4th. There have possibly been changes since that time. This data is intended to provide monthly highlights of some of the local channel changes that might otherwise go unnoticed.

    Code:
New Uplinks from 2010-04-04 compared to 2010-03-20:
Ch # Ch Name Sat Tsp
       7 KFXF HD(FOX-Juneau) D11 21
      12 KEYC SD(CBS-Minnea) D4S 12
      12 KEYC HD(CBS-Minnea) D11 16

    Unavailable(*)->Available Channels from 2010-04-04 compared to 2010-03-20:
Ch # Ch Name Sat Tsp
      22 KRWG HD(PBS-El Pas) D11 17

Removed Channels from 2010-04-04 compared to 2010-03-20:
Ch # Ch Name Sat Tsp
      20 *WCES HD(PBS-August) SW2 4
       4 KTBY HD(FOX-Juneau) SW2 3

    Notes:
    * Asterisks typically denote channels that are currently unavailable.
In some rare cases, stations without an asterisk are actually unavailable.
    * Listed cities indicate the DMA city, not necessarily the city of license
    for that particular station
    * Stations in each category are sorted by DMA then channel number.

    --------------------
    Of note...
*El Paso now has a second HD PBS. KRWG is actually out of Roswell, NM and covers the NM portion of the El Paso market.
*For some reason, the Juneau market is now receiving FOX HD from KFXF (out of Fairbanks) instead of KTBY (out of Anchorage). It might have something to do with the satellite moves shown during the last uplink, since this would now make all of the Juneau locals originate from D11.
*KEYC is actually a Mankato MN station, but it has been made available to portions of the Twin Cities market as a significantly viewed channel.

They didn't expand the area where KEYC is available very far; I can't get it in the southern suburbs (Burnsville) of the Twin Cities. However, I've always been able to get KAWE (PBS) in Bemidji, Minnesota — much further away than Mankato!

Can anyone in the Youngstown OH market confirm that your local FOX is now in HD on DirecTV? I read on AVS Forum that it might be, but the local channel lookup tool removed the channel completely.

You might try sending Newshawk a PM; I'm not sure he reads this thread any more.

In a recent PM to me, he admitted "I haven't been maintaining the HD/ED newscast listing as I once did." I wish he would again, because those charts are chock full of info and spiffy to look at. They make my Local Over-the-air HDTV News Stations table look weak by comparison. (It is more up-to-date, though. ;))

From my perch in Minnesota, it seems that there's no HD news yet in the Youngstown DMA, but in the nearby Cleveland-Akron DMA, WJW (Fox) has HD news, and so do the ABC, CBS, NBC and MyTV affiliates.

    P.S.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WYFX-LP (last modified on 13 April 2010) for info on Youngstown's Fox station.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youngstown,_oh#Media for names of, and links to, other Youngstown TV stations.

I'm not asking about HD local news. I already go to your thread on AVS for that stuff. :)

I'm asking if anyone who lives in that area can confirm they are receiving the HD version of the channel via DirecTV.

DirecTV has added KXXV, the ABC in the Waco TX market, in HD. And with that, they now offer all of the ABC HD locals up to market 114.

Here are the new changes from the latest transponder map update. Data courtesy of doctor j and gct.

As mentioned in the press release with the addition of Univision East HD, several local Univision HDs will be added. Only one TeleFutura so far (NYC). Also, Fairbanks and Juneau now receive PBS Create from KUAC. As mentioned in another thread, Philadelphia now receives WYBE-DT2. And San Francisco and Wichita KS have new SD channels.

Wow !!!... That's 16 local markets getting their UNI affiliate in HD, some which don't have a CW or MyNetwork TV affiliate in HD yet !....

How quickly (based on DTV historical data) would these local stations become "available" after being uplinked as "unavailable" ?... Is it unreasonable to expect them to go "live" this Wednesday ?...

Here in South Florida, WLTV-HD would be our 7th local HD from DirecTV.... (we have 13 out of 18 locals OTA in HD, the other 5 are still in 480i)....

I'm not really sure when it happened, but WAOE (MyNetwork 59) was added in HD to the Peoria-Bloomington, IL market. There was a magic show in HD the other night.

It's really hard to say. Could be this Wednesday, could be never. In fact, we just got updated data from doctorj tonight, and the Denver affiliate has been removed.

You just never know, but it gives people something to look forward to.

Here are the new changes from the latest transponder map update. As always, thanks to doctor j and gct.

Can someone in the NYC area tell me if they are seeing anything on 39. The new data would indicate there is both a channel 39 and 40. The online lookup tool would suggest that the Azteca America affiliate on 39 has moved to 40 and 39 is no longer there. Verification of either would be appreciated.

In other news, the test slots for the recently-added Denver Univision affiliate and the long-ago added Kansas City MyNetwork affiliate have disappeared. And good news for folks in the Midland-Odessa area. Your NBC affiliate may finally be coming!

On channel 39 all I get is an on-screen message saying "For AZA programming tune to Ch. 40." On 40, I get programming from AZA I presume.
