I am looking to upgrade my Receiver, and was pretty set on a HDMI 1.4 receiver. However, a few of the Best Buys in my area have the Pioneer Elite SC25 and Denon 3310 for really good prices. I was told the higher end 3d Blu-Ray players have 2 HDMI, so I can run one to the 1.3 Receiver and the other to the TV.

The only other potential draw back is 3d from Direct TV. Can I run HDMI to the TV, and optical to the Receiver to get the Digital Audio? I know in the past, plugging into the HDMI cables locks down all other outputs in some devices for piracy issues. Does Direct TV HD receivers do this?

If you use optical to your receiver, you will lose out on the lossless CODEC's like DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD. Those formats require the bandwidth of HDMI.

    Does DirecTV support those formats?

No, Blue Rays have the capability but I don't know if any movies have included them or not. I'm not a BR person.

As was alluded to, since D* doesn't have the capability of lossless audio, he wouldn't be losing out on anything.

The vast majority of BD's have lossless audio.

If your BB has the SC25 for $679, I'd grab it. Those ICE Amps are fabulous.

You can also get the Pio 1020 from Amazon for $380 shipped using coupon code "IO2OFALL".

It doesn't have the ICE Amps, but it's a great receiver at a great price and will save you $300+

My AVR will not pass the 3d HDMI through it. Will connecting the DirectTV unit via HDMI to my TV (to get 3d signal to it) and then connecting the DirectTV unit to my AVR via optical then work?

Do you think this could cause a lip sync issue?

How is the quality of the DirectTV 3D channels on your unit? I am looking at the Panny 54Vt25 unit.

Pretty nice, so far. I only watched a replay of a tennis match. I was very impressed.

Curious...does the audio hold up well with the 3D broadcasts as well?

Like lip-sync wise? Yes...Audio was on point. When they hit the ball, the sound was synced properly.
