Same deal when I came home today. snow and black alternating screen in HDMI input. I tried cycling power on the tv, switching inputs and turning the HR20 to standby and back on. Still snow and black. I just switched it to componet for now and I'll do the red button reset later.

Just happened to me for the first time. Thank god for dbstalk. I hit the res button on the front of my hr20, and boom goes the dynamite. Screen came back and I cycled back to 1080i no problem.

You can also just hit the power button twice (off/on) on the HR20 and that should force a new handshake with the HDMI interface. I find that quicker than rolling through all the zoom settings.

I've been having the same problem since yesterday - Switching back from my appletv to the HR20-700 causes the display to cycle between snow and a blank screen. Power cycling the TV doesn't help, but pressing the power button on the HR20 and then turning it back on does.

I'm going to try a full reboot to see if the problem goes away.

I have had the same problem (reported in an earlier post).
It turn's out that all you need to do to is turn the standby/power button on and off. This will reset the HDMI handshake.
This only takes a few seconds...not the long wait for a reset.

I've had this happen two or three times over the past few months on my HR20 connected to my Toshiba DLP through a Pioneer AV receiver via HDMI. The only difference is that I get alternating green snow and black screen. I've used a RBR to correct it, but the standby suggestion seems like a better solution.

doing this fixed nothing for me. It happened 3 times in between updates when they were sending them more frequently. Reset was required. Has not happened for quite some time now.

white snow / black screen is back after latest release. 3 times in as many days requiring RBR each time.

Same here. On my Samsung lcd tv using hdmi... I get snow and black screen.

RBR helps but does not fix the problem.

I have been hitting the resolution button to re-handshake the hdmi.

This never happened before until this latest update.

Thanks DTV for screwing me up. They cant even fix the damn screensaver bug and now this crap.

Just started happening for me last week too. Vizio 50 inch plasma connective via a Yamaha RX-V2600. I'll try the re-handshake trick next time, but it would be nice if they unbroke whatever is causing this...

have a DTV HDDVR HR20-100 and for over the last few months it looses its HDMI connection if I change inputs on my tv to watch a dvd or other input components. The only way to get the connection back is to do a RBR or a Menu restart. This never happened before until a few months ago after a software update. My TV is a Sony Grand Wega model KDF-50E2000 50" Projection TV if this helps.Does anyone know why this just started happening.Thanks.:nono2:

This has been happening to me now for the past week.
If I tune to chan 100 it's OK until I turn off the dvr, on startup it happens again.
If I do a full reset it's good for 2 days then starts again.
Component all OK, only hdmi seems to have this problem

I have an HR20-700 and just got an HR20-100 to replace an old HR10-250 that finally died. The new HR20-100 has had the snow issue twice today since I installed it. Turning it off and on does fix it but it is very annoying. I didn't go to chanel 100 just was going back and forth getting settings and season pass info to copy some of the stuff to the new receiver.

I also have a Monoprice 5 port HDMI switch. I did do a forced software upgrade right out of the box becasue I wanted to make sure I had the newest software release, its not a CE day though so it would of upgraded to the latest national release.

This has never happened to my origonal HR20-700 that I have had since it came out a year or two ago though. Only now on the new HR20-100.

This is the issue I was complaining about here! I didn't describe the snow effect b/c it didn't seem relevant.

i've had this problem on and off for months. Thought it was because of the cheap 100 dollar switch i bought :) always have to rbr

will have to try turning it on and off next time.

are recordings missed when this happens?

No, pressing the power button on the front of the receiver simply puts it into "standby" which really just shuts off the audio and video outputs. Everything is still "processing" inside. In fact, it even keeps buffering the last channel you were tuned to on live TV.

White snow <> black screen. It does it randomly even while I'm changing channels.
Power OFF-ON for a temporary relief. Pain will come again the same day or the next.
I was going to buy better grade Monster HDMI cables to test but as I see a lot of folks are having this issue so I wont waste any money...and besides, it wasn't doing it before with with same equipment/cables.
D* are you reading these??? :nono2: FIX the damn firmware!

Well, after a couple of weeks. I was doing the tune to chan 100 thing and it worked fine for 2 days then started again, it probably did this for about a week. The last time it happened I cycled through the resolution settings (Saw that somewhere here) and that seems to have done the trick. Haven't had the problem since I did that. :D
