I apologize if that title doesn't make too much sense, but let me explain the issue I have and see if there is a way to resolve it.

I would prefer to have channels, both in the guide and as I change through them "surfing," only show up when there is actually programming available on them.

For example, the CBS sports alternative channels show up in the 600's even though they will not have programming on them until college basketball season starts. I would prefer not to see them in the guide or as I change channels through that area unless there is actually programming available. Is there a way to set the guide and the channels I receive to accomodate this? I had the old RCA HD set which had the receiver built in before I got the HR20, and channels did not show up unless there was actual programming on. I would really prefer this setup, if it is possible to accomplish.

Thanks for any guidance, I really appreciate any help I can get with this...

No, it doesn't have this feature. You'll have to manually change the favorites back and forth. Or, might I suggest you set up 1 favorites list to include them and 1 without for channel surfing. You get 2 total favorites lists.

    You bet!

It does exactly what you are asking for.

You just want to set up your favorite channels:

I don't think that is what the OP is asking for. I *think* he is asking to only show channles that are currently showing something. The alternative channels are a great example.

I realize that I can make a favorites list, including subscribed channels, etc. What I am looking to be able to do is have those favorites, yet not have, say, the Sunday ticket channels show up all week before Sunday when there are actually games on, or the alternate sports channels when they contain no current programming, but instead say "upcoming" and then show something which will not be viewable for several days. I hope this clears things up, and thanks for current responses.

I'm not aware of any way to "automatically" remove/ignore the "Upcoming" channels.

I know it doesn't give you quite what you want, but I use my 2nd Favorites list just for Sports, like in the case of Sunday Ticket. Maybe you can create a Sports Favorites and just scan that one from time to time to see what programming might be on, without having all those channels in your 1st Favorites.
