    Hello all!

I should be receiving my HR34 to do a self install within the next few days.

I used to mess with FTA and old school DirecTV but have done a personal install within 4 years or so.

I currently have an HR24-500 HD DVR and an HR24-100 HD receiver set up in two different rooms using whole home DVR service.

I am replacing the HR24-100 receiver with the HR34 (not adding anything, just replacing that receiver with the new DVR). I just checked my basement and there is a 4-way SWiM DirecTV splitter (MSPLIT4R1-03) with DC Power Pass in my basement. There is one coax cable coming "in" and 3 going "out" with 1 port not used.

My question is in order to complete this installation am I just going to need to order an 8-way splitter instead and wire 5 coax cables to the HR34 or is it more complex than that? What else will I need to purchase and what else will I need to install?

Thank you for all your help in advance!!:)

The HR34 just uses one coax cable, since it requires SWM. Replacing an HR24 with a 34 is easy when you don't go over 8 tuners and have SWM.

    Okay thanks for the reply.

So are you saying I will not need to do anything and I can just plug it in? Or will I need to get a new SWM splitter? Sorry if I am sounding dumb, I probably am lol.

Just remove the SAT IN cable from the back of your HR24-100 and connect that same cable to your HR34's SAT IN cable. You'll probably have to perform the initial Network and Whole Home DVR setup, and possible reset your other HD DVR/Receivers, so that Whole Home DVR gets reinitialized.

Okay so you are saying I can stay with the 3 outputs of the current swim 4 splitter and have an hr34 in one room and an hr24-500 in another? I don't need to change my setup just plug and play where the hr24 was?

Okay only reason I was unsure was because on the weeknees site it says: "This DVR is SWM-only! You need a SWM dish or SWM8/16/32"

Since I have a swm 4 way splitter in my basement I was assuming I didn't have a swm dish and would need an 8 way splitter instead of 4way. Is there anyway to check?

If there is one cable coming from your dish and you get HD service, you have SWM. Press the {DASH} key on the remote and if it says "SWiM Connected"... well you are.
