XP desktop with new HDCP-compliant monitor over wireless n -

I'm getting some strange results from attempts to play my recordings, does any of the following make any sense?

The 3/31 recording of Gossip Girl (OTA 34-1 mpg2) will play, but none of the older ones will. I get the "Can't output to DVI,HDMI if PC or monitor doesn't support HDCP" message on all older recordings except for the 3/24 recording which results in the "Cannot play DTCP content AKE Fail" message.

The 3/27 recording of Smallville (OTA 34-1 mpg2) will play, but all of the older recordings result in the "Can't output to DVI,HDMI if PC or monitor doesn't support HDCP" message. All HDNet recordings of Smallville will play (but have the pausing problem).

The 3/25 recording of Reaper (OTA 34-1 mpg2) will play, but all of the older recordings result in the "Can't output to DVI,HDMI if PC or monitor doesn't support HDCP" message.

All recordings of Eli Stone (OTA 5-1 mpg2) will play.

Most of the mpg4 recordings will not play, like Knight Rider (satellite 4 02/17 8:00pm), due to the "Can't output to DVI,HDMI if PC or monitor doesn't support HDCP" message.

All of the satellite mpg2 recordings will play that I've tried.

Reloaded the new PC client on the Vista laptop but get the same results, cannot select the server. Get no response from clicking Connect (or Enter with Connect highlighted).

    Problem

Two times now when I went to close the PC software it froze for about 20 seconds and then I lost my internet connection. I stayed connected to my network but no internet. The only way I was able to get internet back was to completely reset my laptop.

BTW I am using a wireless connection.

I'd like to make a suggestion. Well, first a question and then a question.

When Tom made the template he added the time that we were watching it. That gives me the impression that it's possible that our boxes are dialing home with some of the info from the streaming and timestamps are part of that.

Assuming that's correct and the fact that we're testing this, would it be possible to add to the display software an optional timer that could be running in one of the corners to pinpoint the time an actual issue occurs? For example, "At 01:37 into Law and Order, the display froze but the audio kept playing".

Set up the new XPS 420 Vista desktop and loaded the PC client. Found that this machine also had the same connection problem as the Vista laptop.

Started looking at the Trend Micro security software again and determined that it is the problem on both Vista machines, though I'm not yet sure just how. Some settings changes result in a message that a reboot is required and some don't, but a reboot was definitely required for one that implies that it takes effect right away. Just have to narrow it down as to which one.

Surprisingly video on this brand-spanking new XPS desktop is unwatchable due to constant flashes and what looks like a sync problem. Turning on subtitles greatly alleviates the problem though, now the screen just has random pixellation.
Will have to perform some detailed testing now that it's up and running.

    Dripping...
I've updated my drivers on my laptop to the latest that I can find for everything but on the bast majority of HD content always get the can't play because it can't apply SCMS. So as a work around would it be possible to have a setting to tells the client to only output 2 ch PCM audio vs. trying to output digital to get around this problem?

Found the connection culprit to be the TrendMicro firewall. Either setting security level Low or adding DirecTV.exe to the exceptions list allowing all TCP/UDP protocol comm enables proper operation.

Haven't yet figured out the video problems with the GeForce 8800GT / E248WFP combo.

When canceling playback on the desktop, the audio goes off on the TV for a minute or so.

I had the skipping problem with 8800GT as well. Problem solved with current Nvidia Beta Drivers. I have not yet installed the "current" release, I went from a pretty old ones I got when I first got the card to the current beta release. (174.74, which is actually current for the 9xxx cards)

Two minor issues for me- on vista home sp1, doing anything via ctrl-alt-delete puts windows into "video compatability mode" (disables aero) mode and the app stops video. Video still plays, and if you stop the app video kicks back to normal.

Another installer aesthetic issue which I'm sure sombody has seen, 2 install tabs show up in the taskbar.

I am sure this is a stupid question and probably can not be done but I want to check just to make sure.

The problem I posted in post #51 I am still thinking the problem is there are no more licenses available. If that is the case is there anyway to unregister a PC? If so I will do that on my laptop so I can test it on my new PC.

Did you uninstall from the old one? Maybe uninstalling unregisters it?

I didn't think of this but I am a little worried if it does not work and if I can't reinstall it on my laptop than neither will be working.

Just a note that I put Vista SP1 on my laptop this past weekend and it didn't change any of my issues.

I ran into this for the first time tonight. Instead of coming here and reading the issues, I rebooted my entire PC. Note to self, next time read the threads first.

    The reboot did fix it.
