Being in the New York State market, I can tell you, I did not see the Devils game in the guide. Buffalo was being telecast, but the Rangers and Islanders were blacked out. They were, however, in the guide. I went through all of the other MSG alt channels, but did not see the Devils in there.

    788 is espn game plan.

can they use the stats channel slot for a game if needed?

But not it's 24/7 unlike in the past.

True, but was there any college basketball games on then? What they could do is use the NBA channels if needed.

If D* were to put a game on a channel number outside of the designated CI range (769-787), some subscribers will not realize it is there, especially those who use favorites lists to remove channels they aren't interested in. Every channel number in the 700's has a purpose, and a few have more than one (e.g. ESPN Full Court overlaps MLB Extra Innings). These channel ranges are declared in advance and will not change during the course of a season (though they might change between seasons).

Agreed. The point I was getting at is that in the future they could use 788 and above if they had to though, share it with FC. But then again 13 games in one night doesn't happen a lot.

Anyways, a full day of HD hockey on today. Enjoy. :D

For the second Saturday in a row, D* has pulled the plug on 770 and 770-1 in the minutes between the end of the early game and the beginning of the late game.

What possible reason could there be for this???

Last week, the D* slate popped on the middle of a discussion between McClean and Cherry.

Tonight it cut off after CBC sent the Manitoba audience to the OT of Pittsburgh - Montreal.

Cutting the feed for 10 minutes? Really?

At exactly 9:59, the feeds returned.

    Go figure...

Two things I can think of are that maybe, just maybe, they needed to switch satellite feeds for the late game? Or, maybe just maybe they had to pull the feed because the Habs game was also on the NHL Network. I'm just guessing...

I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying to figure out the logic used by DirecTV ....

...And speaking of pulling feeds the NHL Network did the same thing almost the instant the Pens scored the overtime goal. Cut Bob Cole off in mid sentence...

NHL Network is getting even more lame, if possible. Not only is it a mickey mouse organization to begin with, and not only is that stupid crawl on the bottom among the most annoying of any sports network, but now they have a further intrusion on the game with a pop up that is present for about half of each period telling you what is on later today or tomorrow. The amount of ice being obscured is ridiculous. What's even more amusing is that they have so many overlying graphics that for a long period this graphic telling you about future games is then often obscured by little signs for Versus that they are also advertising. It's truly ridiculous.

How much the crawl intrudes was demonstrated very well in yesterday's Flyers-Rangers game. When showing the replay of Callahan gloving the puck into the net, his hand was obscured by the crawl until the very end of the replay when you could just see the puck going into the net.

NHL on the Fly is also getting into the act. There is now often a wide band across the MIDDLE of the picture showing the outcome of a game, which again often obscures the very play they are trying to show. Does anyone there get it? Do they even have any idea what the final product looks like to the person watching?????

I totally agree with your comments on the NHL Network. It has been getting worse. It's so bad I hardly watch it and I'm a hard core hockey fan.

I absolutely love hockey and I cant ****ing stand the way NHL Network presents games. Not only do they force you to watch whatever feed they pick up despite the fact that both feeds are likely available elsewhere on D*'s system, they put that giant ****ing crawl across the bottom making it damn near impossible to see anything that happens along the near boards.

And if youre DVR'ing another game to watch later, you better have control of your eyes. Otherwise you have to do what I did last year during one night where I just wanted the crawl to go away and thats tape dark paper to the screen to cover it.

Crawls are ****ing rediculous. Theyre everywhere. Remember when they were just an occasional intrusion on ESPN every half hour? Well ironically ESPN now has the right idea, they take their crawl away during live games for the most part. At least they did the last few times I watched anything on those networks. Why cant NHL network do the same? If youre showing live hockey, take the ****ing crawl away.

And then they do that stupid on the fly thing during intermissions. The only use On The Fly has to me is recaps starting probably about half of the way through the repeats of it that start at about midnight, since halfway through is about the time they actually start showing results from Western conference games.

I really wish NHL network would just stop showing live games, the way they do it.

There is a contact form on NHL.com. I have just sent an email pointing out that the NHL Network is unwatchable due to the intrusive graphics and the constant crawl. I would suggest you all do the same.

While it may do nothing, it will let them know that hockey fans just want to watch hockey. If nothing else, you'll feel just a little better blowing off some steam in the form of constructive criticism.

They did switch feeds. The early game was loaded with ads from Edmonton. The late game had B.C. ads so they definitely switched feeds. And as mentioned, NHLN was showing the game, so in actuality, the Pens game should've been taken off immediately.

What irritates me much more is when After Hours gets cut off. Saturday's was the first time it wasn't cut off in a few weeks. Once they cut the feed off before After Hours even came on. The other times they cut if off once the first guest left. CBC would go to ad and promote the next guest, and then the feed was pulled.

I know this has been beaten to death, but D* has got to work a little harder on getting the "regular" feeds of all of the Sports Nets. Come on D*!

Looking ahead to Saturday December 3rd there's a problem with the online and onscreen schedules. The NHL Network has the Montreal game in the afternoon and the Leafs game at 7 PM. These are showing on 215 and 770 in the guide. I hope the 7 PM game will be replaced with one of the other CBC games but time will tell.

Also there was a glitch last night with the TSN feed for the Calgary game. It was dropped even though it was in the guide. Tonight there's another TSN game listed for 771. I sure hope it appears as listening to a NESN feed of a Leafs game will be painful!

Generally speaking, the 7PM game from CBC that's placed on 770 matches the game placed on 771. If the 7PM game is an all-Canadian matchup, then 771 matches the 10PM game. This Saturday DirecTV has the Devils/Jets game on 771, so I suspect that will be the game on 770 once they fix the guide. Listings for CBC games have been somewhat problematic when looking too far ahead in the guide.

Yeah it's weird how inconsistent the Canadian feeds are. For example, One night you will have an Ottawa SportsNet feed in HD and a few nights later they will be on the same network but no HD feed.

I know we usually only get the the American HD feed if they are playing a team from the states but I'm talking about when two Canadian teams play though.

Yes it is. Same thing happened tonight with the Edmonton home feed. A week or two ago we had the home HD feed, but tonight only the SD feed. Doesn't make any sense.

Well, HNIC on CI is getting there....

Tonight, immediately at the end of the Devils v. Jets, D* cut off 770-1...

But, they left 770 up for more McLean - Cherry, followed by Calgary v. Edmonton pre-game.

    Baby steps, baby steps....

Let's see if 770-1 comes back at 10:00.

The blackouts, in Upper New York State, were ridiculous tonight. Sabres were on, but the Devils, Islanders and Rangers were all blacked out. I can't get a handle on it, with different blackouts, for different teams, when they all play at the same time. Some nights, I get 3 of 4, some nights 2 of 4, tonight, 1 of 4. So sick of the inconsistancy. Same thing Friday night, when the Sabres played, I get blacked out of the NHL Network game. Enought to make a person bald, when pulling one's hair out!
