When recording shows that get delayed by sports earlier in the day it is best to restore the non-PTAT recording and use one with a buffer.
The issue I was referring to is not setting a recording (by error or not knowing a show would be good enough to watch) then finding out later (via social media, friends at work, etc) that I missed last night was worth watching. Leaving PTAT active means that the show is there to watch - with skipable commercials - and I do not need to seek alternative viewing (such as streaming from the network's website).

If PTAT causes other problems on one's receiver one needs to make the choice of which issue is the bigger problem in their life.

It's been a year since I noticed this problem and they still haven't fixed it. I understand software problems occur but you have to fix them. (I was a Software engineer and Software manager for 47 years). I recorded 7 episodes of the Oroville and several only got the last 2 minutes. Really annoying.

It's the way PTAT works, a characteristic resulting from the excessive overhead required to single out the application of extra time to a saved recording with well over 28 programs a week. Many here have explained how to deal with it. Just deal with it.

It would be interesting to narrow down who the few are ... what makes their receivers different than the majority of subscribers. A failure affecting every program on every Hopper 3 would have been caught and corrected.

When I had the Hopper 2 it was not a problem. I had a dual Hopper system and one Hopper was set to PTAT and the other was used to record everything else.

However I have discovered that if you get a few minutes into a recording while PTAT still has it, it will be saved ok. My only problem is when I am gone for several weeks and return I discover I can't watch something I recorded. This is not an oddity but a major flaw to the Hopper3.

If you would follow advice given on this thread, you would not have a problem. It's ridiculous to call it a major flaw. There are inherent limitations to what PTAT can do for you. Understand them and get over it.
