Can i Use any dual tuner usb tuner for this unit since its usb or not?
It has to be either the dual tuner sold by Dish Network (black case) or the dual tuner sold by AirTV (white case, same innerds).
The dish version with a detachable usb cable has been reported to have overheating problems, the newer Dish and AirTV dual tuner OTA dongles have a non-detachable usb cable.
Off brands will not work.
So where can I find these new dongles or a model number. I am still using a single tuner and it has sucked for years as far as the recordings go.
Might start with Dishnetwork.com or AirTV,com....
I'm sure an Amazon search would find one or the other or both.
I don't want to get one of the first gens that run hot and have the removable cord. Is there a way to distinguish them in a picture?
SIze. the hot ones are larger.
No thanks for the horribly misleading answer. There are dozens of dual tuner dongles that wont work and only few that do.
The best is the one that goes on the dish i get 75 ota channels and when i used the dongle i got about 35 channels

The dual OTA tuner you want is the one at the bottom of this AirTV Products page in the center.
Products | AirTV
It is white and the one from Dish is black, that is the only difference.
It is also $29.99 whereas Dish charges $50 or 60 for theirs - I haven't even looked lately.
You DO NOT want the dual tuner from Dish that has a removable usb cable, it runs very hot and - well just DON'T!
Here is the Dish version that works, same as AirTV but black. Note no ventilation holes in the large surface where it says Dish

Thank you very much. I will give it a try.
There aren't any Hopper compatible dual OTA tuners that "go on the dish". Are you thinking of an antenna?
