Why do you think competing brands should work each others product?

With Dish's dishplayer and DirecTV's UTV, which responded to the same keyboard, give all Philips sat codes a try in rc65 remote.

Dishplayer was DISH's first DVR it's software was written by Microsoft not DISH. The remotes were different from all other DISH remotes because they weren't compatible with DISH's software.
Directv's UTV was much the same story, it was very similar Microsoft software to what Microsoft had written for DISH.

Hopper is so many generations newer than Dishplayer about the only thing they have in common is they were both capable of recording.

Because of the same keyboard IR code all webtv used, at one time the RCA UTV responded to both RCA dss codes, Sony dss and SA TiVo codes, Philips sat code, and DISH sat all at once. An upgrade around beginning of 2002 fix it so RCA and Sony would no longer interfer with each other, but the rest continued to respond to each other. If the hopper responds to UEI SAT code 0775, then there's a chance mce code would work in the dtv remote, 21972.
