Yes, if I understand your question correctly. But it might not be advised--you might convert the others into DECA receivers someday. :)

    Cheers,
    Tom

I haven't seen the new thread yet - I'm still recovering from a very busy weekend - but will add my info after I have all my equipment and actually have it working.

    We'll see about that! :p

    ------------

Now a question for the mods ... I've decided to set up the new H24 and HR24 receivers in my living room, where I will have the best opportunity to spend a lot of quality time with them. I already have three receivers in the living room and use the custom IR code sets on two of them.

Any concern about me immediately changing to new custom IR code sets on the H24 and HR24, or is testing desired using default code sets 001, meaning I'd need to have each receiver in a different room?

    Thanks.

So when I get the HR24 and h24, I assume all items I need in order set up the deca with it will come along too, right?

My main question though is, will the deca products come with any instructions on how to set them up?

Is Directv planning on making deca devices available for purchase online so anyone can order them and do a self install?

I ask this, because I honestly have not really studied the deca info ( i do have a basic understanding of how it works, but since I don;t have it, haven;t really looked in detail onn how its physically all connected.. appears really simple though), and I figure if these items I receive will be retail packaged, I can give feedback on how the instructions are worded as well... If not, then I will read and figure it out quickly!

Anyone know what all group 3 will be receiving in addition to the boxes to create the deca connections? Like I said, I haven;t really read much, but I assume a PI, a filter, and a deca? :D

Also, do we know when these deca devices will actually be available and how much $? After the field trial I will want to hook up at least some of my other units via deca, if not all my other units... (Really need to be picked for the swm32 trials!) :D

Hooking up the DECA interface to the network is very easy and straightforward. What I'm wondering is if perhaps the HR24 will contain that interface internally. In other words, simply plug the [first] HR24 into the network and then every other DECA capable device (H24 or HR24) would be automatically connected. That would certainly simplify the installation process.

I doubt it, since the invitation said that a DECA device would be provided for the internet connection. Once that is connected between the network and the DECA cloud, all compatible (H24, HR24 or other devices with DECA adapters) which are part of the cloud would be connected to the network.

Any time a DECA is added/removed from the cloud, all DECAs communicate with each other [or reestablish comm].
With the adapters, the receivers didn't notice a change from being hardwired here.
"Would imagine" the H/HR24 will look for a DECA during boot up. If it finds one and doesn't have anything connected to the network jack, then even without the adapter to router, it would report "network connected, but no internet". Connect up the adapter to the router [first] and you'll have network & internet.

Is there any way to test the deca connection? bandwith?

Since it's a bridge, did hook it up to PC's during the Field Trial and it performed pretty well.

    Dripping...
One thing I noticed is that if I ping the STB's in the STB cloud it's in the 3ms to 5ms range vs. 1ms.

The thing to keep in mind is that that "version 1" DECA units used for the first DECA team test will not necessarilty be the same as those that are released publically in the future - in fact they won't.

Also, those that will be used for our testing....may also be some kind of "version 2" devices....won't know until we get them.

Yes, was considering posting the DECA network testing results here but 1) not sure if the "new" DECA's will perform the same, and 2) not sure if allowed to post the DECA Field Trial detailed performance data outside the Field Trial.

    There were four tests:

Test 1: Test to get traffic through the cloud:
    • Test 1a - Client & Server Ethernet Hardwired
    • Test 1b - Client Hardwired, Server thru DECA Cloud, when no traffic within the Cloud
    • Test 1c - Client Hardwired, Server thru DECA Cloud, with HR-to-HR MRV MPEG4 MRV ongoing within the Cloud (HR21-200 MRV from HR20-700)
    • Test 1d - Client Hardwired, Server thru DECA Cloud, with TWO HR-to-HR MRV (HR21-200 MRV from HR20-700 & HR20-700 MRV from HR21-200)
Test 2: Document the affect of TCP Window Size for traffic through the DECA Cloud with no traffic elsewhere in the Cloud:
    • Test 2a - Client & Server Ethernet Hardwired
    • Test 2b - Client Hardwired, Server thru DECA Cloud, when no traffic within the Cloud
Test 3: Document ping times through the DECA Cloud with no traffic elsewhere in the Cloud:
    • Test 3a - Client & Server Ethernet Hardwired
    • Test 3b - Client Hardwired, Server thru DECA Cloud, when no traffic within the Cloud
    • Test 3c - Client Hardwired, ping all 6 receivers, when no traffic within the Cloud
Test 4: Repeat test #1 above but use a HR21-200 port #2 as the network bridge instead of the Network DECA:
    • Test 4a - Client Hardwired, Server thru DECA Cloud, with DECA Network Bridge, when no traffic within the Cloud
    • Test 4b - Client Hardwired, Server thru DECA Cloud, with HR21-200 Port#2 Network Bridge, when no traffic within the Cloud
    • Test 4c - Client Hardwired, Server thru DECA Cloud, with HR21-200 Port#2 Network Bridge, with HR-to-HR MRV MPEG4 MRV ongoing within the Cloud (HR21-200 MRV from HR20-700)
    • Test 4d - Client Hardwired, Server thru DECA Cloud, with HR21-200 Port#2 Network Bridge, with TWO HR-to-HR MRV (HR21-200 MRV from HR20-700 & HR20-700 MRV from HR21-200)
